Heya,

Was reading more on AS and came across something interesting about hyperactive immune systems in autism patients. I've always had quick wound healing (a cut will heal up in a day or so) and rarely get actually physical ill. More often, I suffer from sinus problems which crop up usually during stressful periods and do not appear to have an allergic basis.

Also, I have a very high chronic pain tolerance. I normalize to pain levels and can shrug off the pain and keep working. Though this does not apply to acute pain or sharp sudden pains (like getting hit with something). That just makes me crazy mad.

Anyone else have similar experiences with AS?

It occurred to me as I was writing this that if these are AS symptoms then Wolverine must be one bad-@zz Aspie...... 8O

I have noticed my injuries heal really quickly... and high pain tolerance too...(In high school I sprained my ankle one morning in class and was able to walk through 2 more days without limping before I went to the doctor). I know it's not diagnostic criteria or anything but it would be interesting to see if a number of Aspies share these traits

The thought of Wolverine being an Aspie made me lol. That would be awesome

DAMN

I was gonna write this.... >_>

Anyway, I suppose I've had a similar experience. Small cuts clot up rather quickly, I have no known allergies, I rarely catch anything and what I do catch is relatively minor.

I heal quickly. Cuts usually take a day to heal, and minor illnesses take about 3 days to a week at most.

I have a very high threshold for pain. After getting my wisdom teeth removed, I didn't need to take the prescription I received for heavy-duty pain medication. The only pain I felt was a dull ache in the lower right side of my jaw, because they had to cut my gums to remove a tooth that was impacted sideways.

A few years ago, I had a bladder infection that was starting to turn into a kidney infection. For a few weeks prior to going to the doctor, I felt a burning and stinging sensation when I urinated, but it was more annoying than painful, so I didn't think anything of it. I only noticed something was wrong because I was running a fever and feeling light-headed.

I've found that I have a pretty high tolerance to pain.

I played football for five years... and my problem was tackling (physical coordination). Nuff said.
I'm extremely scared of pain but it doesn't really phase me. Getting tackled, I freak out before, but when it happens, it wasn't anything.

I heal... relatively fast. I don't know what to compare it to, it's usually not extraordinarily fast.

I've nearly cut my fingers off and haven't noticed until the room looked like the set of CSI. I even had my bottom wisdom teeth removed with a local. Most people's idea of pain is an alien concept to me.

I've had my wisdom teeth out too and they healed much much faster than the doctor said they would. On the third day my swelling was almost completely gone and that's the day it was supposed to be the worst. As far as cuts and stuff go I wouldn't say they heal faster than other people. I can't say that based on any scientific evidence though so who knows.

I worked for 4 weeks on a ship with a fractured hip but I can't walk barefoot on gravel. High pain tolerance for serious injury like fractures, dislocations and deep tissue damage doesn't hurt much but very low pain tolerance for small stuff.

Usually, I heal up fast, but as I get older I notice how much my state of mind and diet effects the rate of healing. When I'm more depressed than normal I have trouble getting over a little cold or clearing up a skin blemish.

My mum often comments on how unusually healthy I was as a kid.

I don't think it's AS.

Know a guy who heals like X-Men's Wolverine. Injuries that should take weeks to heal does so in days. He's allergic to most all pain-killers but has a high pain threshold. Also responds with homicidal rage to the slightest influence of anti-depressants.

He's NT. Just the way nature compensates?

My son has AS he as far as I can tell percieves pain differently than others his pain tolerance is huge I mostly know he is in pain when he has more trouble with keeping in control. Things piss him off easier and to a greater extent when he has an ear infection or a sprained ankle. He has burst his eardrums and only mentioned it once or told me it sounded like he had cookies in his ears. Doctors said he should be screaming in pain. It is worrysome since he has some hearing loss due to no warning of infections he does not get a fever either. When he hit a certain level of pai that he cannot handle his blood pressure goes crazy and it is hard to get him back down out of the pain since most pain meds do not work on him. For example surgery prep meds that should knock him out barely faze him while others are passed out he is only a little glassy eyed. It was impossible to keep him off of his sprained ankle and he continued to injure it because it really did not hurt It did not support his weight well and he walked oddly but little complaints except he hated it not working correctly. Just curious if anyone had these issues.

I have a low tolerance to pain. I don't know the speed of my healing, but it could be rather slow. So it's not something that got all aspies.

I don't know if it has anything to do with AS. But I think that I don't get sick as much because I'm not around people very much. As for healing, I have no basis of comparison really, but it depends on the circumstances. (Dry skin = slower healing, etc.)

As for pain tolerance, I'm pretty sure I broke my foot several years ago, because it still bothers me today, but I never felt the need to go to a doctor at the time. But on the other hand, stupid little things like clothing tags can cause me a lot of pain. They seem worse than actual serious injuries. It's ridiculous. I suppose that may be a sensory issue.

I am exceedingly heatlthy (rarely ever get sick). Have freakishly high pain tolerance (have to use special PTs and Doctors who know about my hpyosensitivity) and cannot take medicines in the normal amounts. If I take any sort of med, it is usually half dose. I LOL's RE the bladder infection turning to kidney infection. I have had that happen on numerous occasions and now know that if I am peeing for less than 7 seconds to start tracking it because I probably have something starting. In some ways it is WAY dangerous.

I've done the same with wisdom teeth. I had my upper wisdom teeth taken out with a local and ate pizza the same day.

I have a high pain tolerance (which I ascribed to red hair, but who knows!) and cuts do heal quickly. I recently cut myself with my razor while fiddling with it (I didn't even realize I was fiddling) and all three blades went into my finger...next day it was pretty much closed up and mostly healed.

I am physically a little frail (prone to illness and injury) and heal slowly. I do have a high pain tolerance, though.

That's interesting. I usually require higher doses than most people, especially if you factor in my somewhat small size. Drugs tend not to affect me very strongly and the effects of them wear off very quickly.
