I get this almost constantly.
I say hello, and they automatically go "Miss ... "
One time I actually was halfway through a survey (yeah I didn't say no) and discovered they were asking women-specific questions. I've even been asked if my Husband was home a few times.

Often my phone company won't talk to me because [insert RL and very male name here] is the only person allowed to discuss my phone service, and "you're obviously not male"

I get it more often when I'm upset or frustrated.

It's my understanding that some males with mild cerebral palsy can have higher voice pitches. It's not unheard of. They may have very subtle, mild breathing difficulties too.

Not, since I was a teenager. It is counterintuitive but my voice gets a little higher when I am trying to be friendly with people that I don't know well. I think I try to be less intimidating. But, when I am tired my voice can get deep. Girls would tell me they really like my voice when I am tired. I don't seem to have much control over it, though I suppose I should wear myself out before going out with somebody for the first time..

Hmm.. I'd forgotten that.
I was told that once too - that when I'm dozy or relaxed I get deeper voiced...
Maybe I should start making sure I'm lying down when I answer the phone :P

Can't say I've ever had anyone mistake my voice for a woman's...

It has happened to me, and being asked for my parents also happens from time to time. My voice has a higher pitch which gets exaggerated on the phone. I will get hoarse quite soon if I have to talk much or in a stressed situation. These things might be ASD related but in my case it is more likely to be an after-effect of cancer treatment in the throat area. Or a combination of both...

I usually do not react to it if it is unimportant, or I talk it into the conversation so the other person can figure it out without awkward questions. If they are not able to figure it out by themselves, or get annoying about it, I will get bored with the conversation, bringing it to a swift end.

I'm occassionally mistaken for a man. I used to subscribe for magazines by phone and instead them registering me as Ms they put my details in as Mr. Doesn't bother me. Now I'm more emotional with disintegrating coping skills I tend to neglect vocal control so my voice is rarely mistaken for the opposite sex anymore.

I get mistaken for a man, all the time, or else I get asked if I live with my parents.

This exactly. It's so annoying to be a woman with a deep voice. It's just one of the many things I've been teased about through the years.

Yes, this happens to me all the time. At work half of the people that speak to me on the phone think I'm a woman. They are always saying mamn, miss and etc. Sometimes when I answer the phone at home people think I sound like my Mother!

I've always felt more like a guy anyways, so I take it as a compliment.

I've been mistaken for male, but not an adult male.

One time I called a friend on the phone and one of his sisters answered. When my friend got on the phone, he told me that his sister said I sounded like a boy. My feelings were hurt for a long time over that, and it made me feel insecure about my voice.

But being mistaken for a boy rarely ever happens to me. A much more common occurrence is me being mistaken for my mother over the phone, especially by members of the extended family.

Never, when I was 11 I would talk to a girl on the phone and she'd say something like her cat was looking at her funny cause of how much bass I had in my voice.

No, I have a deep voice that sounds like a man---and I am a man.
