Is anyones special interest a college field? I know PunkyKat (I believe that's there username) loves Timon and Merrkats and wants to become a vet. :-) I go by the name ZeldaPSYCHOLOGY for a reason LOL! So did your special interest help you in college? Have you ever doubted yourself with getting into your field of interest? I hear things such as our interest are narrow and some of us especially females have 1 or more partial degrees. I also think though NT's not just Aspies change there major and want to become something else later onward into college. Plus you guys know my parents dislike of Psychology as I've said time and time again. But I know from learning of AS it IS a special interest as my parents said "It was all I thought about and all I talked about!!" I think that= Aspie Special Interest LOL! :-)

I would worry about making a career out of an interest. Mine inevitably go away, even if it takes a couple years. :(

Mine was my Ph.D. thesis topic. Ammonia as an energy carrier is still an interest even after I've graduated.

I thought you meant college football and soccer fields.

I imagine most people with AS who go to college study their field of interest, or something related.

Being that my interest has always been there although I didn't realize exactly what it was until fairly recently (high school) I feel pretty secure in basing my profession around it.

I am a certified machinist, passion is cars. This surprises some people because "why didn't you go into automotive mechanics" and my answer is simple "would you rather be covered in oil, working outdoors, dealing with customers who have no idea what you are doing complaining that you're trying to screw them over or would you rather be indoors, in air conditioning, covered by metal shavings which you can easily brush off, building RACE engines for enthusiasts and professional race teams?" then I add on "oh and machining pays better" and usually another rant about how easy it is to fix cars without schooling.

I am not in college yet. But I plan to major in film and minor in English.

Film production and writing are two of my myriad of special interests.

One of my obsessions is Economics, but I'm more interested in stocks, shares, and derivatives than the supply and demand diagrams we're doing at the moment.

If anything my interests hinder me in college. They're all I'm bothered about, I am hoping to have a career in those fields though.

In addition to meerkats and Lion King, veternary medicine is another special intrest. I want to shadow a vet but I am told you can only do that if you are a college student. I am still in high school. I had an epic meltdown when my lizard's vet wouldn't let me shadow them. I held it together untill we got home and my meltdown lasted for hours. I'm considering finding a new vet for her. One that WILL let me shadow them and not give me the BS excuse that the clinic is too small. That was my most recent meldown and it was awful. Everytime someone suggests I should be a vet tech instead or that I need a "Plan B", I want to strangle them. My parents think I am too stupid to be a regualr vet but my perfect neice could be the messiah if she wanted in their eyes. But anyway, the only thing holding me back really is other people and BS prerequites like English and literature for vet school.

If my local college offers any courses in music, I'll take them. 8)

My special interest is people problems, just found my workfield for it. Doing Social Work at the moment, getting my Propedeuse this year, aiming for Humanistics next year.
I love to keep it broad spectrum for finding answers, it matches my way of thinking 8).

If I ever went to college, I would love to study film and enroll in drama classes. I would study film so that I could write essays on my favorite movies and learn how to be a director, and I would take drama to learn how to be an actress. Even if I never got cast in an actual movie, it would still be beneficial because I could learn how to act more like an NT.

My special interest is ASD's and my field is speech pathology. It's nice because I would love to work with other autistics (I prefer severe autistics but any will do) and I am mild enough where it's not a crazy proposition.
