New Girl
Hello,
I am new here and here is my story from posting on another thread:
It was only this week that I accidentally stumbled upon the AQ quiz which got me started on all of this. My youngest son has been suspected of Asperger's and was getting tested in Virginia, where he had an IEP and was beginning to receive services. Unfortunately we had to move back to NY for financial reasons and they cut him off completely. He did not even speak until after 3 years of age and also had speech regression. I would not be surprised at all if he is HFA or AS, but I must say that I am shocked by these results about myself, especially the EIQ. Today at the school I teach at, I frankly asked the special ed teacher what kind of first impression she had of me, and she said one of the first things she noticed about me is that I had trouble making eye contact with he, though I remember specifically trying to make it with her because she was that rare person I knew I would connect with (that happens with maybe 2-4% of people I meet, if that).
I also have the INTP personality. Today while at school while walking alone down to lunch I had a moment to think, so it occurred to me that INTP personality and Asperger's seem similar. I had to Google it as soon as I got home and was not surprised to see a connection.
I am 36 and went to three different colleges before I finally graduated, and have trouble holding down a job for longer than a year at a time. The only time I am happy at work is when I can work relatively solitary...such as when I have done editing work from home (I was in heaven!).
I have a very, very hard time getting close to people.
I am scared about getting a diagnosis, but at the same time, I feel it could help me. New York is also notorious for not wanting to diagnose people, most likely because they don't want to pay for any services. Any advice?
Thank you so much.
My results:
broad autism phenotype
Autistic/BAP
You scored above the cutoff on all three scales. Clearly, you are either autistic or on the broader autistic phenotype. You probably are not very social, and when you do interact with others, you come off as strange or rude without meaning to. You probably also like things to be familiar and predictable and don't like changes, especially unexpected ones.
Your Analysis (Vertical line = Average)
You scored 126% on aloof, higher than 91% of your peers.
You scored 109% on rigid, higher than 74% of your peers.
You scored 102% on pragmatic, higher than 73% of your peers.
You scored 8% on diagnosis, higher than 84% of your peers.

Score: 39
EQ-SQ test

EIQ test
Subscale IQ score = 78
Subscale percentile = 8
According to your self-report answers, your emotional intelligence is very poor. People who score like you do feel that they have trouble dealing with their own emotions and those of others. They struggle to overcome difficulties in their lives and they are unable to control their moods. It's hard for them to understand how best to motivate themselves and reach their goals. In addition, they find social interactions quite difficult, for several reasons. They may have trouble allowing themselves to get close with others, finding it difficult to be vulnerable enough to establish intimacy. They also report having trouble offering support to others, likely due to the fact that they do not understand where others are coming from or they lack ideas about how best to help. Perhaps by working on your problem areas, you can become more confident in dealing with your own emotions and those of others.
