According to this list RED DEER Alberta, is MORE DANGEROUS THAN TORONTO! :lol:

All things considered, Vancouver's not too bad. Number 18. There are worse places (like Red Deer ). I totally understand Surrey being so high up on the list, though.

I think I stopped at Surrey few years ago while I was on the Canadian Rockies bus tour.

i'm sorry, in particular, to read this about one of my favorite cities, victoria, but i think the data here, while not to be pooh-poohed, is displayed in such a way as to escape comparison with its truly lethal neighbor to the south. it is not easy to get side by side figures but i can find a murder rate for victoria of 1.44 per 100,000 here:

& for dallas (where i live) it's 15 per 100,000:

in other words, 10 times higher.

i think that accurately reflects the difference between the two countries.

Oddly the most dangerous cities in Canada are also the "whitest" I notice. There is an underclass of whites here that are stirring up trouble. It's funny how most of the non white immigrants here are industrious workers with generally crime free areas while whites are creating their own ghettos (east side of Vancouver, Hamilton, Prince George)

Think of it this way:

One year, Toronto had 50 homicides--and there was a BIG uproar!

New York City, about 2.5 times the population of Toronto, had about 400 homicides last year--and that was the LEAST amount of homicides in NYC in about 50 years. It was considered a very low total, indeed.

About 20 years ago, NYC routinely topped 2,000 homicides.
