I don't particulary have a favourite favourite hymn, I'm not that religous for my own reasons.
However, the first hymn I remember learning was 'black and white' so if I had to choose, I'd probably pick that for sentimental reasons.
I'm not sure if that is the correct title but it's about the black ink on the white page and 'together we learn to read and write'.
Nice.
Personally, I think *** is a little biased or his messengers are.

You don't want to get me started:
On Eagles Wings
How Great Thou Art
Here in this Place
I was There to Hear your Borning Cry
A Mighty Fortress
Shall we Gather at the River...
More, that escape my mind.

My favorite hymns have Hebrew names, since they're from Jewish services. The hymns I listed here are meant to be sung by everybody in the synagogue; they have powerful, yet easy-to-follow melodies, designed to draw in the congregation. (There are more hymns that just these three.) Interestingly, some modern Israeli artists actually use melodies derived from hymns to write trance/techno songs. From what I've listened to, the end result is incredible.

-> Shalom Aleichem (a song for welcoming Shabbat)
-> Adon Olam (a song depicting the glory of God)
-> Yigdal (a poetic song describing the 13 principles of Jewish faith)
