I think my autisim/aspergers is getting worse and 5 years ago i was nomral but according to my brother since i turned 17 i have never behaved the same.

What can I do about this? Is my aspergers just going to keep getting worse and worse or will things improve? I really have lost respect and companionship from EVERYRONE in my social and associate circle except my parents and brother.

Sorry I know this question is a bit blunt.

For the last 4 years i have had to face a lot more pressure and responsibility in life as an adult which does not help matters.

According to people around me I am getting more ecentric as i get older which can't be good :(

That's probably what's causing it to get "worse," period. My symptoms are always more noticeable when I'm stressed out. Dealing with adult pressures and responsibilities means that you have to "act normal" more often, also, and that alone can be exhausting. Something has to give, eventually.

Things can improve if you figure out what your worst "triggers" are and find ways to cope with them.

Have exactly the same thing this year where I couldnt deal with my new situation and my behaviour degenerated. I have found that some things, like the responsibility, you will get used to. Sounds corny and vague, but after six months, I am feeling slightly less stressed and my mind has caught up with itself, if that makes any sense!

Good luck. PM me if you want.

Well one thing that triggers off stress in me is my height of 5ft10 because its not tall enough...... having to deal with more responsiblities as well is very tough but my height and the inferiority complex it triggers off is my biggest problem at the moment.

I have had a 10 year battle fighting my height demons.

Also finding out I have aspergers at age 17 has given me a lot more new problems i have to contend and had to make me evaluate life changes.

 Wow, no kidding. I don't know too many people who are my height or shorter.

Jamesy, I don't want to hijack this thread, so let's get back on topic:

So, your brother observed that "you have never behaved the same" since you turned 17. That's BECAUSE you found out you have AS at that age. Of course there's going to be an adjustment period, and that will last as long as it needs to--there is no set length of time after which you have to "get it together."

It's been a little over a year since I found out. That realization has affected me, too. I've stopped pretending to be something I'm not, and the changes are noticeable. Some are difficult to deal with, but I'm adjusting, and you will too.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

I'd guess it's normal when life isn't being too great to ya.

I'm 27 and I'm reverting - I've been unemployed for 3 years so the stresses of not being able to pay bills, eat real food, move in with partner, all the worries of the future going down the drain, stress about change if I do ever get a job, the job centre being general morons, the job centre being prejudice towards me because of asperger's, having no social life due to no work life and no money to spend with friends...the subsequent loss of friends as a result...blah blah blah blah blah...I've gone from someone who could easily pass as an NT to someone who can barely function some days.

When life gets tough it gets to you, lots of things getting to you, it stops you progressing and sometimes sets you back, it doesn't mean you're going to get worse as you get older...it will get easier, I'm sure, it certainly got FAR better for me from your age onwards, but right now you're just a bit stuck - don't feel down about it.

Why do you want to be so tall? My first husband was six foot five, and doesn't like it, because it makes him stand out in a crowd, and he is always self conscious. Also, because he's aspie,l and his mannerisms are awkward, many people feel alarmed by him. He's been very upset by the number of people, mainly women, who are unecessarily intimidated by him.

My second husband on the other hand was five foot five, and didn't like it because I was taller than him. (I'm five ten also, though I understand that's tall for a woman.) My point is, you'll never be happy, no matter what. If you were "tall enough" you'd wish you had broader shoulders, or a squarer chin, or something. There's always something.

I went from mild AS to severe AS when I turned 19. I'm 20 now, and its taking a lot out of me to get used to the way I am now. I never had much social anxiety or selective mutism and other symptoms before (I did have them but not as bad) and now I get nauseous with anxiety when around people. I have meltdowns in malls. I rarely go to church because of too many people. I'm newly married and its already failing because we live together. I'm more antisocial than usual. I keep joking that I'm gonna be a hermit or a crazy cat lady when I get older, but its not really a joke. I think its gonna happen. And I'm fine with it. :P

Why don't you try accepting your height like I've accepted my appearance?

I'm gonna be honest with you, the major "issues" I have had in my life started when I hit puberty. High school was a disaster. When I was 25 I suffered some sort of mental breakdown and since then I haven't been able to sleep naturally. My obsessive-compulsive personality also kicked in when I hit puberty and has caused a lot of psychological distress.

That being said, it's not all doom and gloom. The battle is never over but I have a successful career that gives me the freedom to pursue road tripping (my special interest). But I would consider myself seriously disabled, and the sleep is the worst part.
