Would you start your own country if you could?

Suppose you had the option of starting your own country or nation somehow. Away from the other countries and not limited to their laws and customs. A new country, with it's own laws and customs, flag, and more. For many people, which even includes some NTs, most, if not all of the current countries on the planet are not quite suitable for certain beliefs, lifestyles, and more.

Wouldn't it be great to be the ruler of your very own country where what you say goes? You make up your own social norms and laws without having to worry about what the rest of the world is doing or thinks. You could even allow things that pretty much no other countries allows.

I'm sure there are a lot more pros then that, but I can think of a bunch of cons. The very first thing you would need is land, which in today's world may be quite hard to find. If you find land close to other nations you may have problems from them in setting it up. Finding giant islands far out at sea may be rather difficult. Even with the land, you would still need lots of resources. Along with the resources, there would need to be people to use them to build stuff. Then there is the issue of getting the stuff, which will usually cost insane amounts of money. Getting the nation up and running could take many years. Also, it will likely be a poor nation for quite awhile. Still there are yet more problems, mainly during the creation. Health problems, plus what's stopping another nation from deciding they want to take over? Without a good army of sorts, that would happen very easily and thus end the whole nation.

Along with possibly a lot more cons, today starting your own country or nation just seems close to impossible. Most nations started a long time ago before there were airplanes and other advanced technology. At times I would rather start my own nation rather then fighting my whole life to get the government and people to change the laws and customs of where I live now (mainly issues of acceptance in a “free” country). Comments?

Yep. If provided with all the basic neccesities, I would quickly set up my own country.

A full sheet of laws would be put in a lot of promient places. Any disputes would be easy to resolve, if not, then then they sure would be because I'd soon add a law about it. I would make sure that no preduice was tolerated - whichever way it went. I would also make sure that the 'race card' would not just be accepted.

No prejudice? That's fascism. As for me, I would go very loose. First of all, drugs legal. I would regulate them through a non-corrupt FDA clone, but they would all be legal. Then I'd set up an airport to get drug tourism. Also, a large army would be nice. Eventually I would invade 5 or 6 countries so I could have some hubs elsewhere(Nepal, Albania, Honduras, Rwanda, Nauru, Tajikstan) and keep tabs on others. I picked the poorest of the poor so I could help out while I was there. I would promote agriculture, education, and a lack of industry. Cars would be replaced by trains, as I am old fashioned and hate cars. It's not a liberal thing per se, but an anti-car thing. Once things were set in place, I would start invading a few poor countries around me(I would probably place myself around Ethiopia, so Eritrea would be up there). While I was doing so I would gain international condemnation and they would ignore my budding nuclear program that I was building in the middle of Tajikistan. I would have an embargo on the Japanese, as I am waiting for them to recognize the rape of Nanking. So I would take that time to smash the world economy and blow up Tokyo. From there I could have fun with kidnapping and such...

If I could I would. I'd set up my own law, make the place look nice and set up towns and cities. I'd call it "A-Land"

Hell yes! I would be a ruthless dictator! An autocrat! But my citizens would love me anyway! (After I have kicked out the idiots, that is.) People would be free to leave my country at any time, I would even help them to do so.

Some people may think that autocracies are immoral, but no, autocracy is ethical provided that participation in it is voluntary. Hence why I said people would be free to leave at any time.

Yeah, I would start up my own civilisation and everything, it would be nice and peaceful, so there would be a few people that I would have to place a permanent ban on lol

I would get a 100 year lease on land in North West Africa. I would set up massive
scale light labour intensive manufactoring. Injection molding and assembly of low
tech products. I would be in a great location to ship to the US,EU ,Africa, Brazil.
I would ship scrap HDPE plastic from those countries to my country and products
back. I would not waste time on farming. When the EU and US are selling wheat below world production cost ,its pointless to farm. Plus by buying wheat from those
country I would improve the balance of payments(keeping voters in the US and EU happy). My workers would be sourced from the pooriest places in the world. I would
treat workers fairly but the condition for most people in the country will be very poor. Though hopefully no mass stravation or war. In time through a low birthrate
the conditions for future generations would improve.
