The Onion ftw.
I don't find that offensive, because it's making fun of the rainman stereotype not all autistic people.

I don't find it funny, at all. There are lots of things that I do find funny. The Onion isn't one of them. I'm sorry.

I wasn't offended, but I didn't really think it was funny either, and I usually love the Onion.

I think it's a great parody of the way autistic people are portrayed by the media and it shows the way people see those who have a disorder. It reminds me of their videos about a kid who won a spelling contest.

Woah. I do this a lot. Spouting random facts to people (like latin words, or how the Internet was made). I can't tell if they're interested in what I say. It's only when I look away for a moment and look back they're gone. :(

What I do, is if I want to talk a lot about something, then I just start talking, and then if I realize that I'm saying more than what could be put in a single paragraph if it was written down, then I ask the person I'm talking to if they would like to hear more.

And about the video, I'm actually an onion fan, so I found that to be kind of funny.

I am on the spectrum and I found that very funny. Parody is supposed to make fun of things, we hold dear.

Yes! That's what I found so great about the video as well. The politician's response of "...okay" is all too familiar to me

i'm kind of resurrecting an old topic here, but honestly i'd be more offended if they tried to treat autism nicely. as it is, i'm really not offended at all actually. the onion makes fun of everything and kinda makes you take a step back from the world and go "...huh. that's kind of absurd, isn't it?"

but i mean, just think about if the onion, a site/show dedicated to finding the ironic/dark humour in absolutely everything, stood up and did a respectful discussion on autism like a lot of real news things seem to do with PSAs? "autism is a developmental disorder, characterized by bla bla donate to charity bla"
that's not funny at all.
it would almost be like they were saying "hey autistic people, we don't want to offend you because we know that autistic people don't have a sense of humour and are overly sensitive!"

so between "haha, this is what people think people with autism are like, and it's somewhat based on truth, let's put an exaggeration of a stereotype in an absurd context!" and "autism is a serious thing and should never be taken lightly and you should never assume an autistic person is any fun at all or has any sense of humour" i TOTALLY choose the former.

edit: death is a serious thing too, but they're satirizing death and funerals as well...

also, is it just me, or does only seeing 3 red cars in one day seem a bit low to you? red is the most common colour of car, last i checked, and DC has a lot of cars. i was going to say i can see 3 red cars from my window right now, but i can't. if i was in my dorm room i'd be able to though, since my window there overlooks the parking lot.

I think that everyone who found it offensive is a sore loser.

Anyways, I think they portrayed autism rather well actually. This guy wasn't a savant and I know some people with severe asperger's and HFA who are exactly like this. I almost cried tears laughing when I saw these segments on air because I've been known to act like this sometimes.

My wife and I laughed hysterically! We with autism shouldn't be afraid to laugh at ourselves.

I agree. I found it funny because it is stereotypical. I think someone's been reading that awful (in my opinion) book; the curious incident yada yada because that goes on about numbers of cars and colours. I think I am just jealous though because I can't do math!

Nor can I do math. It has always been my worst subject.
