well actually, in general, i also have problems with near-vomiting if i brush my teeth, take vitamins with plain water (the flavor bothers me) or eat something during dinner with my mom and i'm really sensitive to the food.

the problem with brushing teeth and vitamins completely aside, i find that going home and having dinner i totally hate normal, unprocessed food, especially meat. but for the sake of keeping my weight up, as well as my mood being manic depressive and aspergers (but bipolar overall) i have to eat meat, eat healthy, take my meds, not complain.

thankfully my mom and i are getting on track and trying to treat me very slowly but surely in a homeopathic method which will definitely do me a great deal of difference, but i still wonder if the need to vomit and the intolerance of meat, potatoes and most dinner vegetables is just a childish habit or maybe something i can change. i'm afraid that i'll get very critical answers but i just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone can relate or help.

That can't be any fun. It sounds like a sensory problem to me. I would recommend gradually desensitizing yourself to whatever (flaver, texture, color, etc.) is bothering you.

you already tried that, then I apologize.

Have you been checked for any possible medical problems? Nothing comes to mind, but you might want to see a doctor first. When you are dealing with strange problems it might be good to rule out medical issues.

As and bi-polar is me also, i take two meds risperidol (risperdal) and anafranil. Risperidol causes throat spasms in some cases, which is the vomit response or feeling sick. This does not go away if you continue the meds, on top of this your bi-polar might be causing OCD or repetitive thoughts which can also produce the vomit response. talk with your doctor to ensure the meds you take are not the cause or you may need some counselling to help you through this unpleasant experience. good luck. :D

There is a possibility that this is a reaction to some meds. Before I was properly diagnosed I was put on prozac (sent me manic, but that's another matter) and it cut my appetite right down. It was awful.

Some meds can make you feel queasy... I found that while I was titrating up with seroquel, though it's fine now. It would be worth talking to your doctor in case there was a problem.

Regarding bipolar people needing to eat meat... I'm not sure that's true. I don't eat meat, and now I'm on the right meds I'm reasonably stable. The texture of meat is a problem to lots of people... I can really understand how the chewiness is off putting. (That's not why I'm veggie, but I do know others, including NT's who stopped eating meat because of the oral sensation.)

Anyway... I don't think you'll find people here critical of your dietary issues. You'd be surprised how many of us are in the same boat. For example... I've just gone completely off chocolate. Suddenly realised that it's slimy ... at least to me. So don't worry, you're not alone.
