I just learned to know about a month ago. My mother-in-law taught me while we were visiting.

I am completely hooked! It requires just enough focus that I can't slide into worry mode, but not so much that I can't relax, watch TV, or talk to the hubby.

The process of turning a string into a something with two sticks is pretty cool. I love being able to create symmetrical patterns. Math is not my strong area (dyscalculia) but I'm sure that there is alot of fun math stuff in there for those who are so inclined.

I also love the fact that I can make my own hats, scarves, and eventually socks and mittens. This way I can choose soft, non-itchy yarn, and non lumpy patterns.

Anyone else a knitting nut?

Yay! How long have you been knitting?
What are you working on right now?
I am working on a scarf, but i think I may frog it and start over
Also working on a dishcloth
and last night I bought needles and yarn for a hat.

I've been knitting regularly since I was 8 (I'm 43, now). Unfortunately, because I have young kids, I have to devote all my spare time to them and thus don't get to knit as much as I like. My last project was a lacy scarf for my mom for Christmas. It was made of a Stacy Charles yarn that's part silk and part cashmere. Very luxe! She'll probably never wear it, but it is gorgeous and it was fun to knit. Glad to keep my hand in it.

I think it's cool you've got so many projects going on. Just be careful and don't get too obsessed or else you'll find yourself with a "stash" of yarn. NT knitters do this, too, but I can see an Aspie taking it to extremes (as I have, in the past).

I like all the fabric arts. I have a loom, too, that I still have to "loom up" and start weaving on. I'd like to learn tatting. My sewing is atrocious, but I still manage to make costumes every year for the kids.

I'm a knitter too. I've been knitting for the last six years. So good to see I'm not the only one here. I also crochet, embroider, and counted cross stitch. The joke among my family is, if you give any woman in my family fiber and a needle and leave them to it, in a week you will have a thing of beauty.

I'm obsessed :D I like doing it whenever I've got free time, on car rides, waiting for appointments, watching tv, waiting for my little brother to get out of school, or even just sitting around at home :) can't get enough of it! I've been making stuff like scarves, arm earners, hats, socks, and it's so cool having the stuff to wear when you're finished with it!

I've actually received some strange ridicule for knitting though. A few people have ask me "what year do you think it is? Why don't you just go out and buy one?" to which I reply, it's constructive, relaxing, pleasurable, and cheaper then buying one, I feel accomplished when I'm finished, it occupies me when I'm waiting for something. and if I went out to buy one, It'd be nearly impossible to find exactly what I wanted, but if I make it myself, I can make it however I want. I'd also feel less lazy making it myself :P and even when telling them that, they still don't seen to understand, which just plain confuses me. When it comes down it, at least I'm not going around criticizing people for their hobbies.... -_-

People just flat out don't understand. I remember getting ridiculed as a child for my grandmother, great grandmother and aunt sewing dresses for me. The kids at school said my family was too poor to buy me clothes and called me trash. It was bad enough that I was not at all "normal" to have them be absolute jerks about it. Needless to say, I was glad to be out of the public school system.

I love to knit! It's sooooo fun! I started knitting when I was 12, but couldn't purl unless it was a stockinette stitch and so I quit and then I picked it back up again and realized the reason was because I didn't put my working yarn forward.

I want to learn how to change colors and be more confident in my cable knitting.

My project currently is a mint-green prayer shawl for my sick teacher and a knight's coif... yes... I'm knitting a coif... It's going to look like chain mail.

the best book on the market for learning all about knitting is "stitch 'n' b***h. It is geared for a young audence and has all you need to know anything about knitting

I knit with a kniffty knitter because I am working on a big project and it knits a row at a time verses a stitch at a time. I love it though.
It is like stimming while making something functional and beautiful.

jojobean, you're right! It is totally a stim that makes pretty things!

I am in the middle of my first project using a pattern. It is a dishcloth with a big heart in the middle. Just knit and purl, nothing crazy yet, but it is so cool to see the pattern develop as you go!
I know a lot of knitters totally love wool, but I am digging working with cotton! It is soft and not itchy.
The cloth is a super bright pink! So cool! :D

That's interesting. I personally hate working with cotton because to me it feels slimy. I really like to work with nylon and silk when I get the opportunity because I like how smooth it feels while I work it.
