A while ago, my mother suspected that I have aspergers. I now am starting to realize that I actually may have it. I am embarassed to tell my parents about the tests I took online. I want to get diagnosed so that everything is under control. What shall I do?

Jeezues child.... Talk to your parents already. I think you have 6 or so threads on this subject today.

Unless you can afford an eval you aren't going to get diagnosed without going through them. Call a shrink that specializes in ASD and ask them what they do.

Here is what my clinic does..

Everyone does their own thing though so you have to call the one you want to go see and ask.

I agree with Kfisherx---call a professional for advice on this. I gather that you would really like to know from an official diagnosis if you have Asperger's or not. Please don't be embarrassed by anything here---Aseperger's is nothing to be ashamed of.

Think of it this way. Get diagnosed. If you have Asperger's, do what I did---treat it as finding your owner's manual on life. After I was diagnosed I bought several books on Asperger's (including Tony Attwood's) and read. Wow! Talk about discovery. It was like looking in a mirror of my life. I learned a lot. I finally found myself after all these years. It was worth it.

I say don't get diagnosed. Hang around here and learn what you can unless you need services. Get diagnosed if you need services and they're available. Not otherwise.

Hey Jaidey. It's natural to be somewhat apprehensive regarding Aspergers Syndrome and seeknig a diagnosis can be scary. Heck I was 31 in 2006 when I first was diagnosed so I know what you're feeling. Either way tho it's good to get an offical diagnosis one way or the other. Good luck and fell free to pm me with any questions.

Do a google search for autistic services in your city. They will give you a list of doctors that specialise in Aspergers. They will also give you the names of doctors who are willing to work on a sliding scale.

That sounds just like me. I am nervous about telling my parents about all the research and tests that I have taken and kind of embarrassed. Don't know why.

I am thinking about not holding my stims back as much around them and maybe they will ask me about it. Then that would be a good ice breaker. Maybe you could try that if you are a frequent stimmer.
