What do you think about book: "Freaks, geeks and Asperger syndrome"?

I haven't read it yet, but I want to read it. I'll just have to wait until I could get it on hold at the library.

I've read it. Just a few days after I found out I had AS.

I think in some instances he mis-represents Aspies as complete weirdos, and not normal people with different ways of thinking ... and he rambled on a lot.

But it had some strong points. Helped me learn about myself; and he talked about the way he thought the world as, and I realized that I was a lot like he was.

"Freaks, Geeks, and Asperger Syndrome", was one of the first books I read about AS. I remember liking it a lot. Luke Jackson is very witty and wise for his age. You can go to amazon.com and read some of the first chapter for free.

If you have a netlibrary account you can also read his moms book which has a few excerpts from his (its called Multicolored Mayhem I think) though she talks alot about her other kids too.

I have read it and I agree with a lot of his perspectives and points of view. I liked when he said that AS people are the "New, improved model".

I've read it and identified with several stuff he wrote in it. I loved the bit where he was sarcasrtic without mentioning it about girls moving off complicated roiutines and inly hiving to "gyrate your hips and look sexy. AS girls,isn't that something to look forward to?"
(that's not exact, but it's damn close-as close as I can get without having the book in front of me.)

In my book, that's sarcasm.

Is this the book that went with the tv documentary?

If you've seen the TV programme "Magnificent 7" on BBC then thaat is based on the Jackson family, with each character taking the middle names of the real family.

What is the Magnificent 7?

It's a programme based on the Jackson family, which isn't a series but a one-off. It shows the events that normally occur in their lives (the mum, 1 AS boy, 2 autistic boys, 1 AS/ADHD boy and 3 NT girls). It shows a year has passed - and symbolises that the boys will never change their way of thinking.

I read it. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really informative about Aspergers so much. It was more of a description about the life of someone with it. I prefer books that are straight information.

I saw the dramatisation of the documentary 'the magnificent seven', and then the documentary itself. they were part of the reason I paid for a diagnosis, because I related to the child with AS so much. there were other reasons.

they live quite near me, in the North of England, and part of me would like to go and visit them. But visiting people isn't something I do. I mean, I don't feel comfortable visiting anyone at present.
