Welcome to what may be a sparkling new thread: Help with computer games! Well, what I mean is video games, but whatever.

If you need help with any of the following games, particularly boss strategies, I can help. Forget GameFAQs, what you need is the personal (and eccentric) touch of Quatermass.

The Resident Evil series, barring the Outbreak games, and the Gun Survivors.

Silent Hill 1, 3 and 4.

Final Fantasy 1,2,4,6,7,8,9,10,10-2.

Parasite Eve 2

Metal Gear Solid 1-3.

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, as well as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Metroid Prime 1 & 2, along with Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion

Super Smash Bros Melee

Devil May Cry 1-3

The Legacy of Kain series

Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne

Worms series

Grand Theft Auto PS2 series

Kingdom Hearts 1

Red Dead Revolver

This was inspired by a thread in the TV forum about hardest bosses in video games. Ask me any question about gameplay/bosses/enemies in this, and I will try and answer.

In Ocarina of Time, what are the musical notes for the songs? I never really learned much about music theory, but I'm learning about it now.

Whoops, found something on GameFAQs. Any more games music questions, unless it's for where a certain track is on an OST, address 'em to the forum above. Anyway, this is taken from Funky Lizard's FAQ from GameFAQs on how to play certain songs.

Funky Lizard, aka Tony Emerson wrote:
These are from low to high

B= Z-D-A
C= D-A
D= A
E= U-A
F= Cd
G= U-Cd
A= Cr
B= Cl
C= D-Cu
D= Cu
E= U-Cu
F= U-R-Cu

By "CU" or "CD", "CL" or "CR" he means C-Button directions.

Quatermass:

Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2): If I eat The End's parrot, do I gain something? Like a bandana in MGS2

If I finish the game and still have a bag of noodles do I get something?

thanks!

I hope you think these are not trivial questions, but if you don't....

Okay, eating The End's parrot will leave a bad taste in the mouth, and have The End swearing vengeance.

Finishing with a bag of noodles is irrelevant. They are, however, more tasty than The End's parrot, and will give good stamina boosts.

However, to get the Inifinity Face Paint (the MGS3 Bandanna Equivalent), you need to capture a "Tsuchinoko" alive. You know how to set mousetraps, right? After fighting The Fear, set 'em up all over the place, then search them after they activate (takes a minute or so). A "Tsuchinoko" is a bizarre looking snake. If he's not in the traps you set, collect them (by crawling over them) and start again. After you do this, you must not eat the Tsuchinoko!! !. (Try calling Para-Medic on her non-save frequency for an amusing conversation involving Para-Medic, Sigint, and Major Zero).

You will lose the Tsuchinoko after being captured and tortured at Groznyj Grad, but after your escape, look around close to the waterfall, and you should see him crawling about. Use your tranquiliser gun to shoot him and collect him, then finish the game with him in your inventory.

The advantage of Infinity Face Paint over the Bandanna is that (when you eventually get it) you can equip Stealth Camouflage with it simultaneously.

How do you get Stealth Camouflage in this game?

You have to shoot all Kerotan statues. Read any FAQ at GameFAQs for further details, but bewarned, that is a difficult quest that'll have you tearing out your hair in rage and misery....

Hi Quatermass, thanks a lot!

argh! Do I have to do that with each of the kerotan (those cute frogs)?

I'm almost finishing the game, so I already missed plenty of them :(

By the way, MGS3 is WAY better than MGS2, specially because it doesn't involve endless
talking through the radio window

Yes. There are 64 Kerotans in all. One for each area of the Virtuous Mission. Then, one in each area of Operation Snake Eater. This includes all areas you were in in the Vituous Mission, at least one on each screen of the chase sequence at the end (thankfully, you can save after you finish each screen). There are good Kerotan lists on the net, particularly at GameFAQs. Otherwise, you need to be ultra stealthy in game, and I found that hard in MGS3.

Right, any other questions?

I want a question, not monosyllabic mockery.

Oh well, if the mountain won't come to Mohammed.....

I will post a boss-strategy or strategy for a difficult bit of gameplay at semi-regular intervals (translation: whenever I feel inclined). These will include the above games. The format will be somewhat like this for bosses:

Name: (name of Boss)

Game: (what it says on the rusty, botulism-bloated tin)

Brief Biography: (there will be some spoilers, but I will keep these to a minimum)

Attacks: (various weapons/attacks boss has)

Effective strategies/weapons: (the meat and potatoes of my strategy)

Spoils of victory: (Mostly for MGS series, Metroid)

Easter eggs: (some games give unusual ways to beat an enemy, like "MGS3")

Okay, first strategy coming soon....

Question for MrMark:

Have you played Half-life 2? How do you rank it against the other ones? (half life 1, blue shift, oppossing force)

Question for Quatermass:
Of the three Silent Hill games you mentioned which one do you recommend?

I didn't like Silent Hill 4 as much. It's a good game, but it's damned hard. Silent Hill is showing it's age, but it provides lots of backstory to Silent Hill 3, which is the one I recommend. However, I heard Silent Hill 2 is good, and you should try and get it. I'm yet to play it though.

Please note that this is for questions regarding help with playing games, however, not buying them. I'm glad to do so, just PM me. I'm trying to figure out which boss I'll post a strategy for....

OK, my first boss strategy of the........um.........moment!

Name: Cerberus

Game: Devil May Cry 3, (End ofMission 3)

Brief Biography: Not much to say here, but the homicidal canine guardian of the Temen-Ni-Gru. He shares an affiliation with ice, and, while contemptuous of mortals, will give his soul to anyone who shows their strength in battle.

Attacks: Now, as you may have guessed, Cerberus has three heads. Depending on which one is top-dog (so to speak), they will perform different attacks. One will fire a big ice-boulder at you. Another will fire a stream of cold energy at the ground, freezing it, and you if you stay/land on it. The last will call icicles from the ceiling. Occasionally, they will charge at you, and they will sometimes swipe at you with their paws. Finaslly, they can summon a line of deadly ice spars to rise up from the ground.

Effective strategies/weapons: Some preparation is needed, particularly since DMC3 is the hardest in the series. Make sure you have enough Red Orbs to buy 2 Blue Orbs at the Goddess of Time statue just before the fight. You need 15000 Red Orbs (to get more, just go back into areas such as the street in front of Dante's Office, and the alley leading to the bar, and fight more enemies). You should also have at least one Vital Star S from picking it up at the start of Mission 2. Buying a Yellow Orb is good insurance, should you have the funds. The effective Style is Swordmaster, and you should be able to do Aerial Rave well (slicing enemies in midair, when you have Swordmaster style on, jump in the air, and press O repeatedly). Another technique that's good to learn is the "Ebony and Ivory Hover". While firing your handguns in midair, Dante's descent will be temporarily halted, which is what you need to avoid the cold beam one of the heads spews out.

You need to take out the ice covering Cerberus' three heads before you can do any damage. Use Ebony and Ivory, or Aerial Rave. Then use Aerial Rave to slash at Cerberus' heads, as you should get 2 or 3 with a series of Aerial Raves.

For one of the first bosses, he's actually quite tough, and it's likely you may die trying to figure out what's going on, so don't worry that much. You'll know victory is coming close when he starts loses a head.....then a second. Things will heat up. Just watch for any attack cues and avoid them.

Spoils of victory: The Cerberus three-headed nunchaku. Plus access to the Temen-Ni-Gru. As you approach the door, you get a rather spectacular sequence introducing one of the main characters of DMC3....

Easter eggs: N/A
