Do you think this statement accurately describes you?

Quote:
You have a great need for other people to like and admire you. You have a tendency to be critical of yourself. You have a great deal of unused capacity which you have not turned to your advantage. While you have some personality weaknesses, you are generally able to compensate for them. Disciplined and self-controlled outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure inside. At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing. You prefer a certain amount of change and variety and become dissatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations. You pride yourself as an independent thinker and do not accept others' statements without satisfactory proof. You have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others. At times you are extroverted, affable, sociable, while at other times you are introverted, wary, reserved. Some of your aspirations tend to be pretty unrealistic. Security is one of your major goals in life.

This is called the Forer Effect. I'm curious to see whether aspies are more or less likely to experience it.

I won't spoil your fun, but it's a trick question.

I would imagine that you would have had a few people saying yes if it was supposed to be just people on the Autistic Spectrum. It is interesting though.

It describes me. But then again, my horoscope is frequently accurate for the same reason.

My last blog post had a mention of the Forer effect. Are you cribbing, or is this just synchronicity? :P

I saw the link after I clicked Reply and then looked at it. Now I find it amusing that I didn't think it described me.

I found it amusing that no one has voted that it does describe them. Maybe because Aspies are more self aware of their traits because we are invested in an accurate description of our challenges?

I was about to do a post going through every point saying why it did or did not apply to me, but meh.

I verbally wrote that it describes me but forgot to vote., I just went back and voted.

Upthread I wrote that it describes me (because it does) with the caveat that my horoscope is often accurate (because it is) also because of the Forer Effect.

It's way too vague. It applies to practically everybody.

I found that a few sentences described me, but others did not. Well, actually, I found that a few sentences were true of me, not necessarily a great description.

You know, you'd get more accurate results if you didn't give away the trick in your topic title.
No, it doesn't apply to me.

Yeah, I agree that it's too bad you gave it away in the title (I've heard of it before).

As far as accuracy, I might've said "yes" in my 20's, but now I'd say more statements in it don't apply than do.

See? I've never been able to keep secrets.

You might be an aspie if your idea of suspense is shouting the twist ending before you've even started the story.

Never, ever, ask me to describe an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

"The movie's about a guy who doesn't know he's a ghost, helping a boy who sees - wait, I just gave away the ending, didn't I?"

There's no way you can answer yes or no really, since there are so many characteristics described. But if one starts from the assumption that "does this describe you" should be interpreted as "does every characteristic listed below apply to you?", then I guess we will hear a resounding NO from pretty much everyone.
