I was listening to how bad it is for you on coast to coast AM.
I know you have to take that show with a grain of salt but there is usually SOME truth in everything they say.
I am looking at it and it seems like it is jsut a conspiracy but there isn't any other chemical like this with such a conspiracy.
I believe it is bad for you in some way because I feel better without sugar like this but what are your opinions?

It tastes awful, and it's reputed to do all kinds of messed up things in the body. I don't see any reason to experiment with it.

I'm pretty sure it is very bad for short term memory. It's in all kinds of drinks nowadays. All these new sugar free drinks are all very well, but I don't think it's a good idea to replace sugar with something so artificial.

Why is artificial necessarily bad? There are plenty of artificial substances which can do one good in the right circumstances, as well as harmful ones. Most are neutral, as is the case with aspartame in reasonable doses. In fact, by replacing sugar it does a lot of people a great favour by reducing the number of calories they take in, as well as the risk of diabetes.

Edit: And there were similar conspiracies of how cyclomates were bad for you, another artificial sweetner, this was as a result banned in many jurisdictions but some have legalised them again given the relative lack of evidence for harm in normal doses. Cyclomates were in the original Tab, by the way.

Except that diet soft drinks actually seem to cause people to gain weight.

I'll just stick to my regular Coca Cola.

I haven't had aspertame in years after I've read about how bad it is. It's in some yogurts too, so I steer clear of it. I don't drink soda at all now so , I'm good on both fronts.

Some of the real hippies claim it to be really awful for you, like a cancer causing agent amongst other things.

Aspartame is only dangerous for people who have phenylketonuria, which is rare. That's why anything with aspartame in it has a warning that it contains phenylalanine. Otherwise, if you drink 10 cases of drinks with it in a day, that's certainly not good for you. But drinking that much water isn't good either.

Personally, I don't like the taste of it anyway.

I have heard it is a carcinogen- not sure if that's true. If it is the case, I imagine the choice between Coke & Diet Coke comes down to whether you want Diabetes or Cancer :P (assuming you drink it copiously)
