I will receive $3500 on my 18th birthday, this August the 10th. What shall I do with it? I am thinking about buying PS3s and reselling them for profit this coming November. I am going to buy my mom's car and maybe even resell it and make a profit. She is giving me a good deal. Any ideas?

How can you buy ps3's before they are released? Do you have connections? Or will you preorder them and sell them at a higher price because you foresee a shortage? :?

$3500 only goes so far - how much is this car? depending on the make/model/year, even if your mom is giving you a good deal (which I don't doubt) you still may not make much of a profit after your expenses. You may want to consider purchasing the car if it is a good dependable one and you need one for personal use, put at least 10% of the money in a "rainy day fund" for when things go awry and you need some cash.

As for the PS3's, you may as well buy lottery tickets, unless you've got a way to tell the future the rest of us don't.

The car is $500 and I don't doubt I could sell it to some sucker for $1500. The PS3 situation: I am just working off history. XBOX360s and XBOXs sold for $3000.

A wise person told me once to always save some of my income because while there isn't much you can count on in life, there is one thing you can always count on: bad times.

Why don't you invest some of it for the future and buy whatever you want with the rest. By all means, Congratulations! :D

I would say that you should definitely invest it. It might be in your interest to find a mutual fund or something of that nature, it really depends. Maximizing your personal accounts is really important when you are young though so focus on making good money now so that way you'll have it when you need it: when you are old, feeble, and social security has died out.

Divide it up take 40% and put it in the bank.A car needs upkeep tires, oil, gas so if you buy it make sure you have enough to enjoy it. The rest blow it on any thing you want go wild :D

It seems I may have read once that people like us are bad with money. Maybe I shouldn't have even asked.

Put half in an interest earning bank account, and treat yourself with the rest, or pay of aquired expenses.
