Musician Frustrations

I made an eloquent new musical arrangement last evening, it was superb. During recording right in the middle, my parents opened the garage door and the recording captured that background noise. I was so mad, but not hostile like. I called downstairs, it was near midnight, and the chances of it happening at that time of night are rare for a two minute recording.

I said, why did you have to open it! Perhaps if they notice the flute sound in the future they will be hesitant to make such intrusive noises, grrr!

I am still fairly upset, it was superb, likely one of the best thus far. So I deleted it, then tried again for a half an hour with many recording attempts.

Oh well, will try again today!

Anyone else here play music and find that one really has to be in a certain hyper-focused mood to do well? Such as being one with the music, well entirely focused on the creation and flow of it.

I don't have to be really hyperfocused to compose music, since it's largely a technical process. But to play an instrument (bass guitar, in my case) I need to be "in the zone."

I wouldn't say in the zone as such ... just in the mood. I don't have to hyperfocus if I'm in the mood anyway, though I guess once I'm practising it's then useful not to be disturbed ... Oh shut up Charlotte.

my old bandmates would love my bass playing at one rehearsal, but then the next time i would be totally sucking.
it's the same when i try to write/compose..if i lose the inspiration or fall out of the "zone" then i become very frustrated and abandon whatever i was working on.

YES, I have to be really focused on music or I can't do anything well.

Thankfully I got into doing really repetitive trancey electronic music, so I can lull myself into a trance and jump right in.

Too bad I haven't done any music in over a year.
