Do you ever post in a thread or PM someone, see that there's a reply, but you're too anxious to open the message or the thread to see what the reply actually is?

Yes, frequently. I always end up stalling for time because I feel anxious. Part of me wants to read it, part doesn't.

All the time, but especially with PM's. I can actively avoid reading them for ages, then I actively avoid replying for ages.

I feel like a coward when I do it.

I got in a huge fight with one of my online friends but never read his two replies in my inbox on another forum but we made up. I still haven't read them and probably never will.

On Babycenter, I sometimes make a reply and then keep reading and then realize maybe I shouldn't have said it and I don't view the thread again. Sometimes I do a hit and run reply knowing people might not take it well but I say it anyway.

I once did it in email to someone but only because she wanted a fight and an argument so reading her last two replies wasn't worth it and I did say I was done reading them so she can have her last word if she wants and I won't read it. I deleted them once I got them. I don't see that as cowardly there.

And on another forum, I see someone had replied to one of my chapters I had posted to one of my stories I posted like two or three years ago and I didn't read it. I was afraid it might be criticism.

But I have never done it here.

It used to cause me untold anxiety, but I'm much better now.

I'm the opposite. I'm always very eager to read the responses to my threads or PMs.

Yes!

Mostly PMs. Though there's been a couple times when I didn't want to go back to a thread cos it was driving me insane.

Yes. Whenever I make a comment that I know will be controversial in a thread, I never go back into that thread to see what other people's responses will be.

I feel that way a lot of the time. It doesn't phase me from returning day after day.

I don't check back on 95% of the threads I post in anyway, I just post my musings, then either don't check back or I usually disappear for 2 weeks. I don't know why this is, probably because I'm worried what the response will be.

As far as PM's go... the last one I got was in 2010, and it was a spambot.

I find it hard to sustain direct dialogue, I've just always been like that so I do feel anxious somewhat. However if theirs a topic going on and I have questions maybe that would be more appropriate to ask in PM it comes easier.

This.

Whenever I see a new message I'm like ":OOO *click, click, click*" But sometimes I am nervous to see replies in some things depending on what I said.

I am usually not anxious online when first opening an email. I may get anxious though when it comes to having to reply...it depends. I rarely feel anxious on a forum board.

Pretty much all the time. It's especially bad with email, so I never end up checking it, so hundreds o emails pile up, and sometimes important ones are hiding in there.
