I was watching the weather channel just now and there was an explosion of high rating tornados in Alabama. Birmingham was hit hard and the footage showed this monster on a tornado over there. The next area on concern is Atlanta, Ga. I have a brother in law to be in Atlanta and I cant reach him as his cell phone is shut off. There was a possible 2 other tornados that could have been EF4 each.
They said they have never seen this kind of outbreak of severe tornados in the east and the number of tornado damage in the southeast has broken records for april. I remember when tornados were very seldom in the south east and the old timers in this area say that only in the last 30 years have we started getting tornados, before then tornados were very rare in the area. I think these tornado outbreaks in the south east which are occuring much more frequently may be caused by climate change. I am not going to say if it is caused by man or the earth's natrual rhythms, but I can say with certainty that the climate here has been undergoing alot of changes.

On the otherhand, I worry for and pray for the people in the path of these storms.
Is anyone here in the southeast and southern applilatian (sp) area?? Is everyone ok??

Jojo

a major airport was hit?!? d@mn that is really going to mess up travel for a while.
I hope you and your family are going to be ok.

I have this weird esp thing going on where I will dream of a tornados and then when I wake up in the morning, I learn there was one 5-10 miles away during the night. This happened to me 3 times. 2 times in Georgia and once in Minnesota.

The storms are supposed to hit early in the morning about 3 am-ish in Middle Georgia where I am at

I'm in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and we're preparing for this stuff. I'm not sure if anything too severe will hit where I live, but it might.
Still have all my power and stuff, though. Just pretty windy.

Also, at least 25 or so people have been reported dead in Alabama, and the cause of the deaths is the storm. A few in Georgia so far.

Ya the weather channel seems to be very concerned for Atlanta, Ga. If you hear something that sounds like a freight train (I know what a twister sounds like) run to the basement and if you dont have one then run to the lowest level bathroom, hop in the bathtub and put a matress over your self and loved ones.
Go ahead and get flash lights ready and put your pets in carriers so you can just grab them and go.

be careful,

jojo

My wife and I are not far from Shreveport, Louisiana, and the storm (including much lightning) got so bad while passing through here last night that I actually shut down my computer until the worst had passed.

All of this stuff usually happens most in April, but I've noticed that it's usually very early April (April 3 is a common date in the US for severe weather, I've noticed) instead of later April.

Other than the severe weather, the tempatures have been below normal in our area this spring...maybe that has something to do with the timing of the severe weather.

Luckily, didn't hit where I live. (I live in Gwinnett County in Georgia.)
However, I am very sad for all of the damage caused in other states, as well as parts of Georgia.

Lee, This is my county http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_County,_Alabama

There was a Tornado Warning (Not sure if one was actually on the ground) in the county directly north of me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_County,_Alabama

The most I got was wind and heavy rain.

I watched part of the Today show at 7 this morning expecting to hear about the devastating tornadoes that hit the southland. They did briefly mention them, in passing, on their way to Prince William and Kat Middleton's wedding. I couldn't believe it! The woman who hosts it was in London skimming the story, saying that over a hundred were dead and then on to that wedding like it was a huge inconvenience to talk about news that was happening in this country, relevant news at that.
The only thing they talked about was the royal wedding that won't even happen until tomorrow oh, and they kept showing a bag that, supposedly had Kate's wedding gown in it, which no one could even see and talking about Kensington Palace and what it will be like for Kate to be a royal. All this while the southern United States just experienced one of the worst tornado outbreaks in history. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. It was incredible how important that wedding was to them and they were going to report it, regardless of anything else. Nothing could divert their attention from it, no matter how dire!

Nice for you! My wife and I used to live in the Florida Keys, and we occasionally sat out on the seawall and watched hurricane weather pass on by ... 8)

It was really bad. Tuscaloosa was completely leveled.
