Yesterday I went out to "the ice cream barn" in my town. It's about two miles away from where I live and is famous throughout southeastern CT.

Whenever I go, once or twice a week, it's during an eating binge. I love ice cream and when I treat myself I like to go all out. There are so many delicious flavors at this place and life is too short to try them all.

I usually get two large cones when I go and it's gotten to the point where the owners/employees of the shop almost think it's funny. But yesterday when I went I still had lots of room, so I got a milkshake to go along with the second cone. I just felt really awkward. I was concerned, maybe they think I am trying to show off or something. But I'm not. I'm a food addict.

They may have thought I hadn't had lunch, but the truth was I had just eaten AN ENTIRE PIZZA. Oh yeah, and a burger and salad.

I left a generous tip though... that always ensures that wherever I go and no matter how much I eat I will always be welcome.

Why don't you seek professional help for this?

I love to eat food, probably not quite as much as you.

I figure life is too short not to enjoy good tasting foods that might be bad for your health because who knows what you're going to die by, more than likely not from food.

I am not over weight but I do have high blood pressure from time to time- nothing crazy high though just slightly elevated which might have to do with how i eat but more likely stress.

Anyways.....i don't think you should be embarrassed, they probably thought nothing of it and enjoy all their customers they get.
You are filling their wallets, I don't think they will think that's strange- they enjoy it!

I love milk shakes, me i'd probably just get a shake and no ice cream.

Over on the coast though I live in washington and when I am in oregon I get to go to the tillamook dairy factory and get some really good ice cream there. Plus a lot of free cheeze samples, and fresh milk though i've had fresher at the fair.

Do you eat really fast? I tend to scarf things down- can't help it. I zone into the food and it's gone as soon as it showed up.

Maybe you should enter one of those eating contests and beat that asian guy who eats fast ha.

He's a celebrity and certainly isn't ashamed of his eating habits.

When it his hurting your health though then you need to begin some different habits and make some lifestyle changes.

Oh, that sucks.

This sounds stupid, but could you get it takeaway?

But seriously, binge eating is hard to live with, maybe seek professional help?

I can understand where your coming from. I also binge, and sometimes i get very paranoid when i go into the same shop for food for a binge. I think they MUST know that im gonna eat it all myself, so i feel really bad about that. I dont like to come across as greedy, but i cant help it.

I am the same as you with binge eating and i always think when i am in a grocery store buying lots of cookies and icecream and pizza etc that the cashier will think it is all for me. My stomach can handle sweets and food in large amounts now because of how much i eat all at once and it probably isn't healthy for me but i know i am an emotional eater. I talked with my therapist about it and she only related to me and isn't helpful, and i am looking for another therapist anyway but that's another topic. I just want you to know you are not alone i am alot like you. I try to do other things like clean or organize or keep myself busy but when i am down or bored it is more reinforcing to binge.

I have really struggled with binge eating overall (see a recent post of mine) but my obsession with it has eased up. Certainly the timing of my next "big feed" impacts my schedule but it's no big deal. I love food, I make sure I get all the proper nutrients and I'm really not willing to change my habits to a "standard" diet of three meals a day. I'll always want to eat more.

I am going to actually put it to good use in a couple weeks; I'm entering an ice cream eating competition. I think it's like $100 if I win. Could be the easiest Franklin I've ever made.

I really don't care anymore what people think. They're making money off me so who cares? It's only an issue when I'm eating with people I know but this hardly ever happens, I almost always take my meals alone.

I know there may be some people reading this for whom binge eating IS a serious clinical issue and I'm sorry if this post serves to reinforce the negative behavior but I just want to share an accurate perspective.

I feel the same way!

I am just so ashamed of my binge-eating....and myself.

I have the same problem. I probably eat nearly a kilo of chocolate per week.
