I just fixed my old turntable, tonight. It needed a tune up, rubber, and a lube job, but it works great, now.

I'm spinning, for the first time, an old collection of 78s that I 'stole' from the Goodwill Store for 2.99, a few months back. It's a West German made set of 12 classical records in perfect shape. I got several other sets at the same time, plus a few rock to play. The sound quality of these 78s is amazing.

I'm so proud of myself! I can't wait to unbox the other LPs I have stashed.

Does anyone enjoy vinyl LPs these, days? I kept about 200 from the old days, most of which I've replaced on CD, but I've got many that aren't available on CD. I plan on transferring them to my computer, where all the rest of my music is, now that I finally got my turntable going again. Yippee!

Hiya

Yeah there's something warm about the sound of LPs, a sound of it's own, and I love hearing the ambience from the vinyl itself too.

Good for you, are you well into your music then?

Yeah, I still play my old records. I have about 150 left.

My brother has an extensive collection. I am hoping to get a turntable so I can play some as I only have cds. Juliearticuno has a lovely war of the worlds one.

Are you saying she has a "War of the Worlds" turntable? I've never seen one of those. I have a more 'normal' one.

Music is a constant with me, but I've just increased my listening pleasure by leaps and bounds. I listen to all types of music.

My main goal is to rip all the LPs I have to the computer and still be able to play some 'special' albums on vinyl. I had no way to play 78s before I got this table and never really had any interest in them. I could not pass up those collections, though, even if I only listen to them once or twice.

As will Hendrix, Zep, Purple, Sabbath, BOC, and absolutely all acoustic music.

Yes ... I have a turntable. It is still sort of common, but primarily in the underground. They still use 45's, which are now called 7". Some bands put out collector full-length LPs, sometimes with colored vinyl. I admit, though, it's becoming more and more obsolete.

Yep, I've got a turntable...I think watching records spin is kind of relaxing, like a fishtank but less exciting
Getting new records is a little hard though...most music stores don't seem to have them anymore. :(

Does vinyl really sound better than digital formats? I've heard people say this but I can't see how it can be true.

There is often a significant loss of sound information in recording between the conversion stages from analog (instruments) to digital (software program or hard drive). Then again when you re-convert the disk (CD Player) back to analog for your speakers. The digital to analog and analog to digital conversion process is severly compromised. Even with their compromises, modern CDs can sound very good and "analogish" if done with analog sound as a goal. All too often, modern CDs are over-compressed and produced to sound as loud as they can possibly sound and the quality of the sound is affected by this.

Going analog all the way, (recording to analog tape, and producing LPs) removes several levels of complication from the whole process and can actually sound more faithful, pure, or true to life. The trade off is that records are much more fragile and subject to surface noise, but more importantly Vinyl recordings are very expensive to make.

Yep, I've got a turntable. It's actually my mum's but I play most of her records. Classic albums, like The Specials or The Jam and even Not The Nine O Clock News - The Hedgehog sandwich. It's much more original and great on Vinyl. My mums got loads and even the original Blue Monday Single by New Order.

My mom always had a working record player. I enjoyed listening to the records much more than certain CD's because the sound quality seems so much more real to me.

My sister's only 2 years old and she's getting into records, so it's cool that she'll still have the connection to that old style of music.

I still have a turntable, but now only use it for a passion of mine: converting records to cd's. Most of the records I have that I want on cd (and thus on my iPod) are already done, so I look around for others. Anybody got any old Fred Waring records? His damned children have prevented his music from being re-released since his death, 'cause they're arguing over who gets how much money

Records? Oh LORD yes! I've got almost 3,000 of them, not to mention a few players. It's the way to listen. A clean record and stylus on the right system can do things to you that you can't believe. I listen to CDs mainly out of convenience, and I proudly state that as yet I have no iPod...or any other MP3 player. (But I do have 8-tracks, and some reels.)

Lol, trust me, turn tables and vinyls will be relevant for a long time. If anything if its not people at home buying them it's all the club dj's buying Technics SL12000 Mk III's and whatever else may be down the way. Most dj's also don't want to go purely to cds because it completely takes the art out of it and it's just not respected as such when a guy or girl gets up on a laptop or 2 cd players unless it's just a bar or something.
