I got into long distance running last august, and last week I finished my first half marathon race (21 km/13 miles) in 1 hour 46 minutes :D

I used to be a total couch potato ... what little interest in exercise I possibly had as a kid was beaten out of me in the school PE torture. It took me 20 years to recover from that. At one point I was borderline obese, but in my mid-30s I decided things had to change and lost a lot of weight over a year.

Jogging sucked at first, but after a month or two I was hooked. Thank god for mp3 players :)

Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment, I'm not a runner, but a cyclist, but I am thinking I may like to start doing some 5k runs. So far all I've done is bought a new pair of running shoes. I suppose I need to put them on and hit the road. I've been riding so much I haven't been motivated yet. I was a couch potato (and a smoker) too till a few years ago, and have also lost some weight over the last few years. I feel so much better and I love the sense of accomplishment I get from finishing a tough or long ride. Again, Congratulations!

Dang!

Good job!

I was 15 when I ran my first (and only) half marathon. (because of cross and track being intense through high school)

Now I am 18, and old enough for a marathon.

I run it in 3 weeks, and I am SO excited.

Anyways, I'm competitive and you beat my time by 7 minutes.

But I'll be a good sport.

*awkward handshake*

Go running!! !! !!

Thanks *handshakes and shakes*

Good luck with the big M. The marathon is still a distant dream for me ... maybe in 2012, we'll see.

Beware the taper madness
