I'm going to boldley go where no Aspie has gone before and answer the question. My special interest is Routemasters. I've said it! Routemasters! If you don't know what a Routemaster is, you can google up some Images. I love Routemasters!

Hey Musical Lottie-

Tell me more about your musicalness. I'm a classically trained pianist though I haven't played much lately, mostly due to the fact that my piano is still in my ex-wife's house. I'm not great, too much performance anxiety to even get into the school of music, but when I'm just playin' for the birds I'm pretty good. You get much performance anxiety?

Incidentally, I’m interested in medicine too. My wife was a nurse. Too bad I’m three times your age. (Oh, did I say that! :o )

After examining all the other responses. Weighing both pro and con. Analyzing the variables.
Conducting research into the matter. Then drawing informed conclusions.

Ummm, what was the question again? lol

Okay. I would have to say it's a secret.

My special interest is anime-I am learning how to draw it for future greeting card art.
Beyond that, voice acting/dubbing for commercials, cartoons, etc.

Lol. Erm, well I play viola and violin, and clarinet / bass cl, though I'm concentrating on strings because ... well, I prefer them, and I'm not allergic to them :P I currently play in a county orchestra on viola, and a ... well, it's a borough orchestra on violin. I would like to become a peripatetic violin / viola teacher.

I get nerves before ensemble performances, but not badly or anything. But solo performance? Pfft - forget it! I fall apart and ... bleh. It tends to destroy me. It might sound odd that I want to be a teacher, but that way I know I can play whatever it is I'm playing (ie the student's piece, to demonstrate it to them) and that way I'll have the confidence to be able to do it. That's the theory, anyway. And also that I'm not being judged by them - I should be a high enough standard to be well above them! :P

I'm fine practising, even rehearsing (with accompanist) but when it comes to the performance it all collapses. Ah well.

I gave a piano lesson once. Longest 30 minutes of my life. All I could think about was "I can't wait for this to be over so I can play!"

Foreign languages, although I surely won't get to all those I wished to try. Especially concentrated on Spanish as it has more place in my life (job, family) right now.

Well, the thread might have got going more easily if you'd used the magic word...

Special interests:

Big one, trying to make sense of the world: philosophy, theology, history, cosmology, quantum physics, and the interaction of the above, expanding into other areas as relevant.

Not quite so pervasive, the work of the artist Rowland Emett, with offshoots into the Festival of Britain, WW2 cartoonists, other mechanical artists, for example: http://www.cabaret.co.uk/artists/artists1.htm

Videogames, but ESPECIALLY the "Metal Gear Solid" series and ESPECIALLY the "Snake" character..... (feel free to read on if you are so inclined)

This is the most pleasantly surprising obsession I have ever had.

Now I have been lucky as far as being AS is concerned, in that my obsessions have never been an item or fact or something but always something with a fanbase, so that I wouldn't feel alone about it (well, after the internet came along that is!). Still, my interests haven't really been mainstream or very accepted, so I've always been an object of redicule at school. My break finally came from Metal Gear. It is a popular and well-loved franchise, and also rather badass and not reeking of 'I'm a geek for liking this', lol. But where did it come from? I mean, prior to MGS I was never into spy stuff, or military stuff, or even attracted to gruff men! But its been SO inspirational, and epic, and funny, and clever, and confusing, and weird, and fun, just....it freakin rocks, lol. And for all the ways MGS rocks, Snake rocks 1000x more, especially Naked Snake. DAAYM.... I've always just bought games but for this franchise I've gobbled up every collectible I could get my hands on. Ok Ok, I know you're gonna say 'but thats a geek thing to do!'. So? I'm sure EVERYONE, even NTs, are a huge fan of SOMETHING. Everyone is a geek of something, even if its sports or cars or bands. Everyone's got their 'thing'.

As far as being accepted? Being a girl gamer and a MGS gamer is very highly reguarded to some people! I have made some great friends thanks to this! Being in love with Snake has had mixed results, and the people who aren't keen of it have probably been exposed to my 'Snake pride' and find it too strange, while some others totally agree with me 100% and I have had some really awesome conversations about him. Lol it feels like being a giddy teenager obsessed with Nsync or something. But hey, AS people take longer to mature right? Even though this is actually quite a mature interest but - ahh you know what I mean!

But I'm a very creative individual too, full of ideas, and if it wasn't for my blasted inertia/attention deficit or whatever thing I have, I would have had tons of MGS related projects completed by now. Most have not been STARTED! This is something I have a huge passion for, and while I do not know if I can make money at it YET, it will be the outlet for me to learn alot of new skills related to creating game content, and from there, I will also expand into my OWN creations that WILL be profitable eventually.

So yeah. I LOVE this obsession! lol

Haha! I guess I need to have a go at giving a few lessons before I dive in ...
