I am 38 years old and often felt different from everyone around me. I didn't really pay much attention to it, typical of AS (in my own little world) until I happened upon Temple Grandin's TED conference. Well that got me interested in the subject. I've taken a few online tests, but I refuse to be tested by a professional. I'm now about 80% certain I'm AS. I posses a high acuity for visual concepts, and I tend to not have any meaningful social life.

Am I happy? I would say no. Life hasn't been a bowl of fruit loops, and being labeled "weird" most of my life rubbed me the wrong way. There's more but I won't harp, I'm sure you've all heard it all before.

Hey! Welcome aboard. You've lucked into a fish bowl full of people who're similarly disconnected from reality.

We're pretty much in the same boat. I have been a member of this forum for all of five minutes. This is my first post. I'm also not officially "diagnosed" by a "professional", but I have known that I have Asperger's since I first learned about it, and have also passed all of the online tests with flying colors. I'm high functional, have a job, a girlfriend of eight years, currently traveling the world (while working online.) Most people don't realize my condition upon meeting me - it takes a while. But, eventually, I will say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, accidentally rock back and forth in public without noticing, etc. I could probably live a completely normal, seemingly transparent life so long as I kept my friendships at arms length, but tendency is to want to get to know people. I'm not even exactly sure why I am on this forum, or how long I will stay. In fact, just responding to your welcome post is taking a great deal of effort. I guess, recently, I have decided that it's time to address this condition rather than dodge it. I want to know more people "like me." Maybe I have something to offer. Maybe I can learn something. My goal is to live a fantastic, eventful, amazing life. I prefer to think of this as a personality shift rather than as a disability. I like myself, and don't want to change. Or "cope." I am interested in other people's experiences, how others "see me", and how to make the best of (or improve) my social character, in order to comfortably and confidently live my life, share experiences with others, and grow as a person.

OK...sorry this is so long. In short: "Hello! Nice to meet you!"
