Hi! My brother is 58 years old, and I believe that he has an undiagnosed case of Autism. His whole life he has had immense struggle dealing with social situations, other symptoms are ... . I was wondering if anyone out there has some advice for helping a person of an older age to see if they might find some help with their struggles in life -- and not feel 'less than' if it is true that they might be a member of this community. . .I've sent him a book to read that I said i had read and liked alot, (I did) "Look Me in the Eye" - and he liked the book too he told me. Told me he couldn't put it down when he first started reading it.

Thank you,

Gracecee

Encourage him to join this forum. Perhaps after thinking back over his life first. That did it for me.

I'm 42. My ex first suggested that I had aspergers, maybe 6 years ago? I took online tests and scored highly, I tried to get a proper medical opinion but the NHS expert refused to commit (as adults are too good at compensating). I thought no more of it. But recently I started dating, and only then realized how different I am from NTs.

For all my life I've searched for somewhere that I really fit, and finally found this place, and I just feel at home for the first time. Encourage your brother to take a long hard look at his life, have a look at this site and think back to his childhood. See if he feels like he fits.

I think that encouraging him to join WP is a great idea.

Yes, if possible, ask him to come here and do a little more reading.

I was 59 when someone first suggested WP to me ...

... and "Welcome!" to you!

If he liked that book, give him the new one by the same author, which just came out! There is a thread somewhere on WP about it ("Be Different: Adventures of a Free-Range Asperian").
