So, most of the guys I know are obsessed - it's an even bigger craze than COD, which seems to be all the more 'mainstream' guys talk about.

So, my question to you, dear thread-viewer (thought I'd make it more interesting by adressing you directly...), what are your views on Minecraft?

*haven't played it yet. I'll get around to it someday!*

I figure that this is the best place to ask this question: Have you guys heard anyone lump Minecraft and autism together at all? I've heard it a few times from the gaming community. I see it simply as a nice, relaxing game.

Yes, mainly when somebody appears obsessed by creating something massive or really complicated that obviously took an insane amount of time.

By far one of the best games I have ever played. My husband and I play it for hours. We should have a WP server, and get together and build.

This is the IP address my husband uses to connect when we play Minecraft together:

192.168.100.104

Feel free to try it and see if you can connect. I have a new server going for us, feel free to log in and build. It is on peaceful difficulty right now.
I can leave it open when my computer is on, I don't mind.

If it doesn't work, I'll wait until my husband can come down and tell me which IP to use.

(sqrt (-1)) enjoy minecraft. I find building to be fun in it, I'd like for creative mode to be released, then i could place blocks without limitation of having to collect them.

I liked living in my 1000x1000 castle wall town on this one server I hang out on which is a friends. Plus friends = cheap labor ingame. Never have to do much except terraform and build more castle orientated buildings.

It's a lot more fun if you play it with the survival angle.

I love minecraft, but I'm a really bad builder. I can't make pretty things. I'm just not creative in that way. : (

I like minecraft best when I'm digging my way through solid rock and I can make perfect little rooms in perfect little grids. But the I accidentally find lava or I make my grid too big and get lost in it. XD

I think I'm going to take you up on that offer, mb1984! I've always wanted to try multiplayer, but I've never been that wild on playing games with random strangers. I just don't get the online "community" where people go out of their way to aggravate other players. : / My username is Chromobear.

Aw, seems you're not on right now. I'll try again later.

Hey sorry! Something happened to my server at the 1.6 Update yesterday...my husband has been trying to figure it out. I will let you know when we do, hopefully this evening.

Okay I just tried re-copying in my world file, and for some reason it worked!!

So it's running again. I'm on for a bit, but I will leave the server on when I go upstairs, feel free to log in!! You can build, there's tons of supplies and stuff in the houses all around.

I played this mostly just to build and mess around. I just played the free, non-survival type. It's fun building stuff, but I can only build so much. I don't have a very good imagination to build anything structurally interesting with, which is what I'd like to do. I end up just playing around instead. Building a large maze was one of my goals, since I used to draw mazes on graph paper as a kid. I made a 20x20x20 cube maze. It wasn't very interesting, but it could take some time to find your way through.

I've always liked building things in general though, but I'd prefer some sort of goal in the design that is easier for me to see. Like a level editor for a game. The goal being whatever the games focus is.

One problem I found with Minecraft though is how tedious building could get. If you had a modified client, it definitely made it less tedious, but it was still there. I can't imagine making a super object in that game.

That IP address wont work for anyone outside your network. It is a network address. If you want to find your actual IP address, you should go to somewhere like findmyip.com. It's probably a good idea to request PMs for your IP address. Also, for it to work, you must have the Minecraft port forwarded, in your router settings, to the computer hosting the server (in this case, you'd forward it to 192.168.100.104). I believe the default Minecraft port is 25565.

Thank you very much! I'm not very good at computers, and my husband doesn't come on this forum!!

I think there's a problem on my end too. I tried again last night, both to yours and to some others I could find, and I couldn't manage to get onto a single one of them. @_@ Google searching proved fruitless.

Setting up a server is so confusing. I tried it once to play with my friend and I'm normally pretty good at figuring out how to get things to run, but that was just way too hard for me! I wonder if it'll get easier once the game's completed.

I think that the rarity of building materials is actually what makes Minecraft so addictive. For me, if the game was just creative mode (where you have the ability to place an unlimited number of blocks and there are no enemies, sorry if I got the mode name wrong) I wouldn't have even bothered to pay for it. It would have just been a game that I played for a couple of minutes and then promptly forgot about.

For me, it's the mindset of "if you can do anything, it doesn't mean anything." The fact that you have to work incredibly hard for each piece of building material you get makes the things you build mean more. At least, it does in my opinion. : )

But I kind of agree with you that the fact that the game doesn't give you any goals can make it hard to play. Especially for people who aren't very good at setting their own goals, like me. XD Or aren't very creative builders, like me. X ( But I also think that if Minecraft did give the player a goal, it'd stop being Minecraft, you know?

I would really like it if there was a map option in-game, though. I've heard of mods you can do, but I'm not computer-savvy enough to dare mess with them. Fo-Rum, I am amazed at your maze-building-ness. I get lost in my own caves. Actually, forget the caves, I get lost on land! @_@ All of my homes are giant lava-filled towers to keep me from getting lost above ground.
