Wtf, someone just told me that autistic can't be sarcastic.

I wrote something sarcastic on here recently and I think it went right over someone's head.

Doesn't mean I can learn how to be sarcastic.

I grew up in a house with good humor.

I think people with Autism are all different, therefore some people do understand sarcasm.
I, however, do not.
I have trouble understanding it. I take it too literally.

i won't say flat out unable, but sarcasm is harder for most autistics then for NT's
i myself are quite decent in understanding it (although i do fail every now and then) and also use some, if i feel it is appropriate.

Same. This statement is something I can understand.

Then "someone" is guilty of lazy thinking. The truth is, some of us can be sarcastic, some of us can't be. It wasn't a neurotypical who told you that, by any chance? They seem to do a lot of those sweeping generalisations. You have to take it all with a pinch of salt.

No, but it means that we ought to be cautious with sarcasm because we might not be understood. It also might not always cross cultural boundaries correctly.

Sarcasm is my favorite form of humor. I can't say I always get it but I use it quite often and it works. I do tend to misunderstand something serious for sarcasm sometimes. Especially when someone's trying to pay me a compliment. And yet I've met a lot of NTs who can't get sarcasm at all. I think it depends on a person more than on a diagnosis. Yeah, being literal may make it harder but we can learn.

I'm not usually a sarcastic person, but I've said a few sarcastic things on WP lately because I felt that I was being pushed to my limit.

Sarcasm is easy once you understand the "rule". Basically, think of what you mean, find words that express the opposite, and speak them with a bit of edginess in your voice.

Sadly, knowing WHEN to be sarcastic is not so easy. And sarcasm at the wrong time is not good way to get along with people. Not that I have any personal experience with misplaced sarcasm.

Recognizing sarcasm is a problem too. Some people aren't very good at it and are obvious in their tone of voice and inflection. But someone that is good at it is much more subtle in their delivery. These sarcastic adepts trip me up all the time.

Maybe they were just being sarcastic?
