I have really liked the band Pink Floyd since I was about 15, and I feel like their music helped me make it through some hard parts of my life. I attempted suicide when I was 15 and then I heard the album The Wall, and I kind of related to it so listening to it made me feel a little better. I know it is a very gloomy album, but it made me feel like I was not the only one who felt the way I did. So for a while I decided I would not attempt suicide again until I had all of their albums that may sound rather pathetic but if it was not for looking forward to their music I might not have survived and finally it got to the point where I was able to fight the sucidal urgers.

So does anyone else have any specific music that has helped them?

Pink Floyd is awesome and I could watch The Wall over and over again without getting sick of it! The bands that I listen to differ probably once a month or 2 except for a couple of bands that I listen to constantly, but they are mostly in the same genres,, either metal or some 60's and 70's stuff like Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. My music of choice these days is Chimaira, Marilyn Manson, Ozzy, Dream Theater (just found out about this band and fell in love with it!), S.O.A.D., Slipknot, Tool and The Deftones. All of these bands seem to have songs that I can relate to no matter how I'm feeling at the moment and make me feel better when I listen to them. And of course I love the sound of the music. I first heard Marilyn Manson's music when I was 11 and it changed my taste in music forever. I never heard anything like it and I was hooked! I wasn't a big fan of music before that only because I didn't know that better music existed!

Simon & Garfunkel were favorites when I was younger. I'm finding that I quite like J-pop at the moment; with it not being in English, it's all music, without any distracting and often terrible lyrics.

Forms of Electronic, Rock, or Symphony or different combinations of them mixed together.

I suppose a good example would be the TRON: Legacy soundtrack. Daft Punk is a great Electronic Rock band but here introduces orchestral sounds.

Another good example is Ladytron.

The album "Uroboros" by Dir en grey is definitely my favorite album that I've ever heard. I also listen to a lot of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Tool...and zelda music!

The music that helps me depends on what problems I'm facing at the time. I listened to EMO a lot when I was upset about a relationship ending years ago. I listened to country when I was depressed about being lonely. I listened to punk & grunge when I was frustrated about life in general. Nowadays I listen to pop & comedy a lot & I find my mood is a lot better. Pop makes me happy & energetic & comedy makes me laugh or feel exited

There are a lot of songs that help me through rough times, but "Heart of the Wound" by Sara Lovell is my main go-to song when things get bad.

I listen to all types of music, but what I listen to in a effort to calm down and relax is Down-tempo trance, and Blues.

Me too. I was obsessed with them when I was 18/19.

What's your favourite Who album, Jonsi? Mine is either The Who Sell Out or The Who By Numbers.

It may be clichéd, but a few years ago NMH really helped me.
