I asked for 10 mg fluoxetine and I can pick it up tomorrow. If all goes well I will be starting to take it in tomorrow. I never took any medicins before. I want it because I hope it wil reduce stress about everyday life issues.

Does anyone here take fluoxetine? What amount do you take? What do you take it for? Does it work?

Good luck!. My husband takes this, he has for years and it definitely helps him with chronic depression and anxiety. Sometimes there can be side effects, but they usually do pass quite quickly. Just relax and assume all will be well!.

Here's some information about fluoxetine: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drug ... 89006.html

I used to take it for some moderate depression and it did help a little. As for now, I take sedatives for my panic attack, but I only take them when I really need them i.e. not daily.

^^^ i used to think ALL drugs were bad - I still would much rather manage without, and I think they are a last resort. However, I now take anti-depressants and they are helping a lot. You still have to take very good care of yourself, though, they don't fix everything!! !.
Personally I find that I have to avoid reading/watching anything that's likely to upset me (like the news, for example), get enough sleep, eat my veggies, and think positive!. Oh, and gentle exercise cannot be beaten.
Good luck to everyone with Depression, it really sucks, doesn't it?.

Depression can last for years... Wait, that doesn't help. Exercise is good! Continue!

I had asked about drugs for depression. The doctor said that they would make me feel less. I opted out because it seemed like it would make it easy to attempt suicide.

Instead, I have made some changes to my diet, being very careful about gettin enough sleep, and trying to be more active.

The most important thing I did was change my point of view and perspective on the things I was distraught about, and be more willing to express my emotions.

I do my best to change the things that I can.

And talk to someone about the things I can't change.

For me it's not about depression. I want them for some relief. I feel tense all day and I have PMS three weeks in a month. I feel stress for every simple thing I should do. The stress builds up and makes me do nothing. I really don't feel depressed as in suicidal, or not wanting to go on with life or something like that. I'm looking for some relief, less tense, more happy and less sorrows.

I see this as an experiment. When I do respong on fluoxetine its likely I have a problem with serotonine and/ or other neurotransmitters. Taking fluoxetine is only a start for me for more research. I think it's possible to activate neurotransmitters with food and sports. But I think that is a long way and before taking that road, I want to know for sure that I have a neurotransmittersproblem.

I take 20 mg for depression. I have used a large number of anti-depressants
and find it to be the most effective and has the lowwest side effects for me.

Fluoxetine certainly affects the serotonin neurotransmitters. I took 20mg nocte for a few months and it certainly did help and one of the side-effects (loss of appetite) cancelled out my gain of appetite that I got from the Amisulpride, so I was quite glad with it overall.

This is from a guy with schizoaffective disorder (bipolar disorder plus schizophrenia) at
http://www.geometricvisions.com/Madness ... range.html

I also thought "happiness in a pill" was bad until I read this.

Quote:
Some people object to taking psychiatric medications - I did until it became clear I would not survive without them, and even for some years afterwards I wouldn't take them when I was feeling well. One reason people resist taking antidepressants is that they feel they would rather be depressed than to experience artificial happiness from a drug. But that's really not what's happening when you take antidepressants. Being depressed is as much a delusional state as believing oneself to be the Emperor of France. You may be quite surprised to hear that and I was too the first time I read a psychologist's statement that his patient sufferred from the delusion that life was not worth living. But depressive thought really is delusional.

In the US I buy my fluoxetine online at http://www.dcpills.com

They give a "free online" consultation. Pills cost a little less than $1 each.
They will spam you relentlessly to refill your rx.

If you're in the UK, surely you can get it through the NHS by claiming that you are very depressed?
