It's pretty sad that in order to see a doctor, you have to resort to getting yourself arrested.

This is not uncommon as you would think. Some people that I known have stollen from stores in front of the camera to get healthcare, the other person I knew purposely got busted for pot to get dental care

Yeah that's really crazy.

I was fortunately Insured when I had to have surgery to take out my Gall Bladder. A few days in the hospital and the bill was almost 30,000 dollars. I wound up owing for about 3,000 after insurance.

Healthcare in America is absolutely insane. I won't deny the medical science is great but it's expensive beyond reason.

Does anyone have any suggestions about dealing with a health insurance company which denies benefits (fails to pay) for a procedure that the doctor recommended? We followed all the rules. Do we have any recourse? We are here in the US.

Creative coding is sometimes used by physicians to get past the no board. Depends on the doctor and the situation but unfortunately, following the rules will probably get you nowhere. You could certainly try for an appeal, but your chances are usually not very good.

Our system is so completely f*cked.

Thanks for the response. I had hopes that the Obama administration would have been able to get more done on making the health insurance companies more responsive. He couldn't get much past congress. Sorry, Off topic. Had to vent.

Last I checked 20 million Americans do not have healthcare. And rates for those lucky enough to have a job usually range from $200 to $500 per month - and that is NOT all inclusive. There are still copays.

Anybody who thinks we Americans are 'spoiled'... come on over... and get sick. It may change your mind.

I think healthcare is a joke to have the whole family on it or just spouse because it east away your paycheck if you don't make a lot. Then you don't have enough to pay all your bills or can't even save money or do anything fun. Obama is trying to change that but sadly he is trying to raise taxes on people who have no healthcare.

Next time, someone in need of medical care should hold up at gun point some insurance company executives.
It is so sad that people are denied health care in this country with virtually boundless wealth that it's pathetic.

I took care of a man convicted for murder who had tried to OD himself on tylenol... I work at one of the supposed "best" hospitals in the US...this man got better healthcare than my grandparents do and my grandfather is a veteran...

If you have nothing to lose and you need healthcare, do it in Michigan haha

In neighboring Spokane, a middle aged couple with chronic health problems and homeless had robbed a bank last year, hoping to be shot by the police, ending their misery. The fact that they had been able to walk out of the bank without a single cop in sight left them completely baffled. So, they used their robbery money to rent a hotel room, and order food. When the police later caught up with them, the couple surrendered quietly. As I recall, sentencing was fairly light, being that this had been their first offense. That, and the fact that the woman had come into the bank using a walker hardly made them out to be dangerous criminals.
