What is your viewpoint on this?

No, not at all. I think everyone in the south has some type of social disorder, honestly. It's such a melting pot of cultures that I don't think anyone knows how they really fit, so I don't even think they notice us. Just sayin'. (I live in Florida.)

No moreso than the north's attitude towards the south.

I don't think so, or at least not any more than the rest of the world.

If any, it's the same with their view of depression, learning disabilities, etc. I only say this because a lot of these issues aren't covered really deeply in the Bible, and some parts of the Bible Belt only believe in what they read in the Bible, the rest is all excuse for sin, or something like that. This is not all the South, or all Christians, just some wackos. I went to a high school near a famous Confederate victory where I was told that I was giving haven to demons and that medication was evil. This is not the typical South, I repeat, just some wackos.

It seems it's OK to make sweeping generalizations about a large group of people when doing so to another large group of people (take your pick) would be frowned upon.
I grew up in VA.
I don't have 3 teeth.
I don't eat possum.
I don't boink my brother.
I have never used the "n" word and never will.
I don't speak in tongues or go to tent revivals.
I can read.
I am very socially liberal.
Go figure.

I went to various churches 12 Steps and whatnot before I was diagnosed, trying to get God's healing and whatnot. I saw Pastoral counselors too. Biggest waste of time and money in my life. They point out sin, not sin, ok, and admit to knowing nothing about brain chemistry and medication. Now I'm a bit pissed at the church for never telling me there was nothing 'wrong' with me, my brain was just wired different.

Interestingly though, I have googled Bible Autism, and found various websites that hypothesize that Joseph (Technicolor Dreamcoat guy) likely had Autism.

And to Aimless, I live in Northern Virginia myself, and know exactly what you mean. When I moved to NYC, they heard I was from Virginia and that I shared a last name with a famous athlete and figured I was black (even though my last name is so British). Then they figured I had slaves, talked like a bafoon, lacked intelligence, and was a Republican. I'm not saying the South is all of those things, but it seems to be a common stereotype.

I do know that people in the South will get really strict and stingy about social communication. If you so much as reply to them or look at them the wrong way they will get on you for it. A bus driver got on me when I didn't say hi to him but I was very sick and on the verge of passing out when I got on his bus. When the next group of people got on and no one said hi back to him he decided to chew the whole bus out. I wish I had said something back to him whether it caused me to be banned by my only means of transportation down there or not. He was just being a total b***h. And I found that alot of other people I encountered in the South were acting in a similar way.

Granted they might not discriminate you for being an Aspie but they'll still get on you really bad if you don't communicate with them properly or show proper social etiquette. So either way, being an aspie means you'll be screwed down there regardless.

Yeah, this is true. Strangers do communicate more freely with each other and expect certain levels of communication. I also see this in nearly any rural area, from Western New York to lower New Mexico. Rural people tend to be more talkative to strangers.

After living several places, I had the most difficult time living in the south.

I'm an Aspy who's lived in the North and South. Neither one is Aspy-friendly, but I really think the South is worse. It basically boils down to this: the things about American society that are harmful to Aspies-the "who you know matters more than what you know" job market, social skills being valued more intelligence, extroversion being favored over introversion-are amplified in the South. Here's another thing: Aspies tend to be blunt and tell things like they are, right? Well, that's more tolerated in the North because NTs there are more blunt than NTs in the South. People in the South like to maintain a sense of decorum.

Florida's not really like the South CULTURALLY. It's, as you said, a melting pot.

I AGREE.
