do you have any strange or odd sleeping habits or behaviours? i was wondering if these kinds of things are relatively common in aspies and auties. perhaps these things are also common with NTs, but i wouldn't really know.

as an adult:

-i like to sleep with a heavy blanket or several blankets (unless it is extremely hot)

-i sometimes immobilise my arms by tucking my hands under the waistband of my pyjamas or pulling my arms out of the sleeves

-i like having someone hold me tightly in a cuddle until i fall asleep (back when i had the option)

-whenever possible i like someone else in the room with me as i feel safer (i often get scared or sad while i am asleep, and i get comfort from someone else's presence)

-i sometimes cuddle with a stuffed animal (used to cuddle my baby like that when she was little too)

as a child:

-used to sleep with the covers over my head

-liked napping in my parent's bed so i could take comfort from their scent

-would sometimes sleep on the floor as i found it comfortable

do you have any odd sleep habits?
.

How do you breathe under covers?

I frequently switch what end the pillow goes at according to what feels "right." I also move my bed around the room once every few weeks or it feels stagnant like I'm in a prison or something.

I sleep in a partially unzipped mummy sleeping bag with a feather duvet on top.

If I am not at home, I tend to sleep completely covered, and curled up in a ball. I use a comforter even in the summer. I like cuddling, though I don't get the option too often. I do still sleep with either a teddy bear or a body pillow, though.

My cousin/best friend sleeps with her head under the covers... I always find it so odd! :P When she sleeps over and I wake up first, I wonder where she is...

I don't really think I have any odd sleeping habits, apart from sleeping on the sofa rather than the bed.

I cant sleep shirtless, or nude. I need to be wearing something
My bed at home is basically a futon matress on the floor, because I didnt have enough money for a real bed. So I had to jerryrig it to be more comfortable

I don't know how typical this is, but I can't sleep unless my hand is resting against my right collar bone.

I can't sleep on a mattress.. I've always slept on a comforter on a bed with no mattress since 11 years of age.. I can't stand heavy comforters on me because I need airflow around me when I sleep.

I never get enough sleep ever. never did even as a child. I wake up a 4 while doing school work [did even as a child]. I can't be asleep for more than 5 hours. There are certain days though that I get knocked out for a good 12 hours to catch on sleep.

- I sleep with the covers over my head since... forever?

I have no trouble breathing whatsoever. For the longest time, I couldn't imagine why anyone would imagine I must be suffocating under the covers. Talk about having defective empathy, hah, I didn't get that others might experience difficulties when attempting to cover their head like that.

- I hardly manage to sleep if someone else is in the room with me and still awake.

The human noise they make drives me mad and though naturally, they sadly continue breathing audibly after they've fallen asleep, at best the noise becomes rhythmic then.

- as a child, I'd line up all my stuffed toys around me.

I always made sure I had enough room to move and that they'd not touch me, because I didn't like the restrictive feeling that gave me.

so quite a few people like to be completely covered! and some people sleep on atypical surfaces too. others also like to have heavy blankets or layers. and there are a couple who have to have their hands placed in certain ways.

I'm so immature, I have to admit I giggled when I read "and there are a couple who have to have their hands placed in certain ways.". :P

well, i think people do that too, but it's practically universal amongst NTs and aspies so it goes without saying!! !

I can sleep with my head under the covers, but it is not my favourite way of sleeping.
I sleep with my window open and always have a spare blanket ready, to get warm or just feel more comfortable (the weight).

Odd thing is I sometimes get my sleeping bag and sleep in that, it feels more enclosed.
Annoying habit is moving in bed. Sometimes I wake up with my head at the foot end v.v.

I still have the habit I can sleep on the floor but the last few years I get a back pain from that on the next day. So I stopped doing that as much as possible.
