My name is Jeremy, I often go by the handle Arcane Ether.

I recently learned about Asperger's Syndrome, after my boyfriend, Thomas, explained it to me.

Thomas spent a few of his college years with a friend who was a confirmed Aspie. He learned the do and don't in approaching someone with this burden, and explained to me after we had dated for some time that I showed many of the signs of having this syndrome myself.

After reading about Asperger's Syndrome, truthfully, on Wikipedia, I disagnosed myself with this form of autism, and learned about this social networking site from the link on Wikipedia.

I've been beating around the bush as to whether or not I should join, not knowing if I would be equally accepted under self-diagnosis.

Today, at work, I was once again called "Rude", simply for pointing out a bit of science, then defending myself when made fun of. I suppose you could call that the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back", so here I am.

I am hoping that in time, I can make a few friends here that might make me feel a little less robot and a little more human.

Hi Jeremy

I have never heard of anyone who self diagnosed AS and turned out to be wrong, I would say if you believe you have AS and it feels "right" you probably are

welcome to WP

I agree. There are NTs who think they have Aspergers, but they are fairly rare from what I've seen. On the flip side, most Aspies seem more than capable of diagnosing themselves once they hear about the condition (and, by the time they do, often know more about the condition than the Dr. who they would pay to get a diagnosis from anyway).

So welcome! I hope you find things that will help you here.

Hello there. I was self-diagnosed from age 14 to 16, when I got my diagnosis. I say you're probably right, there's not really any scope for error. It's one of those things where you know you have it and it's hard to convince yourself you do if you don't. Science has gotten me into some sticky spots in conversation in the past too, as has correcting people's spelling and grammar and correcting adults (when I was younger I would do this all the time and get into all sorts of trouble.)

i self diagnosed myself and i've heard others on this forum who have done the same thing. besides, even if you're NT, and i'm not saying you are, but even if you were, home is where the heart is. so, if you like this forum, if it gives you a sense of belonging, that's great.
also, you can write the words 'aspie test' in the search engine and see what your results are. or maybe you've already done that...
do you like cats? every self respecting aspie does. if you don't like animals, you're missing a lot of what this goofy world has to offer.
