As of yet there is no cure.

There is nothing to cure.
You don't cure a person with blue eyes or red hair either.

asperger can't be cured. there are advantages as well as disadvatages. think of yourself as special, marked in a mysterious way. regular people are just booooring.
the thought there might be a cure for asperger one day is upsetting and frightening to me. i don't like change. and what is a greater change than a change in your own personality?
without asperger, you'd be much less intelligent and might lose your high pain tolerance. life is full of pain (physical), and having a high pain tolerance helps get through easily.

Aspergers cannot be cured, but behavior modification therapy can help you modify those behaviors that make so difficult to function in a social environment. I am not sure if that works for everyone, but my daughter's therapist has been able to help many children, so I think it might work for many. My daughter had improved a lot in the last three years thanks to the therapy she is receiving. She is getting a hold on her life. I think that is good.

Like the fine people above me said, there is no cure. You will have to learn to live with it and accept who you are. I'm actually quite happy with the fact that I have Asperger Syndrome. :)

Oh, and welcome on the Wrong Planet!

Life's sh*t sometinmes. The posters are just being honest.

I am not happy that I have AS. If you do find a cure, let me know. A cure would not change my personality, it would just allow me to pick up those social cues and non verbal communications that would give me more information about my environment. This in turn would enable me to make better decisions.

I am sorry you did not like our responses and that you feel terrible, but we told you the truth. The truth is Asperger's is not a disease, like cold or chicken pox. It will not go away. It cannot be cured. You can learn how to cope with behavior modification therapy and use meds to help with depression, sleeping problems, focus, etc., but you will always have AS. The faster you embrace how AS and learn to accept (and love) yourself the way you are, the better.

Hi BassMan. It's always a pleasure to hear from you. My 11 years-old Aspie daughter wants to be a scientist. Maybe she will find a cure some day. If she does, I will let you know.

Have you considered behavior modification therapy? My daughter's behavior modification therapist works with her in learning to recognize social cues and non verbal communication. My daughter is very good at it, now. She even gets when I'm being sarcastic, and is getting better at understanding jokes.

Hi Ilka, good advice again.
I have been searching high and low for professional help. Unfortunately there is little available in Hong Kong and, as far as I can establish, absolutely nothing for adults. (advice to the contrary is very welcone). I have been reading and reading about subjects such as non-verbal communication. I am gaining quite a good inderstanding and can do very well at written tests now. I am still struggling with dealing with this in real time. I just do not register the cues. I sometimes recall a situation minutes or even hours later and realise what I have missed. I can get very frustrated with myself as it is too late to do anything about it. Anyway, one step at a time.

I wish your 11 year old all the best in her studies. There are many of us here that would welcome her findings.

I've heard it's difficult for adults with AS to find help everywhere! I do not understand why. One might think therapy for children and adults should not be that different. It's the same principle, right? But at least you are trying to learn on you own. That is great. I'm sure you will get better. Just don't despair and continue practicing. Just be patient and give it a little time. I hope things at home are better now. I wish you all the best.
