Hey everyone! My name's Chelsea and I have Aspergers Syndrome. I've lived with it my whole life and it affected my school and social life as well as my home life. When I was two or three I was showing signs of Autism so my mom and dad had me tested for just Autism. Not Anxiety, Aspergers, or anything else. Just Autism because I was showing some of the same signs as my older brother that has Autism was showing.

I was tested and it came up as a negative. They said I might've been showing some signs of A.S. but my parents shrugged it off and called me a normal toddler minus my blood dissorder.

In the second grade I was showing more signs of Autism. This time they were more prominent. My teachers had talked to my mom and dad about this again, and like when I was a toddler, I was tested for only Autism again. Again, this came up as a negative.

Between the second and ninth grade I'd seen many different people ranging from Pediatricians, Child care specialists, neurologists, therapists, and P.A.'s as well as many other people. None of them had an answer for me. Many all just said that I had either social anxiety or separation anxiety which was only part of the case. They had also told me I had Trickotillomania (a hair pulling dissorder) and put me on meds for it. The meds made everything worse though because they weren't targeting the main things that were causing my A.S..

When I got into the tenth grade (this last year) I'd been having some mega big melt downs anytime something in my usual ruetine changed. I was taken into testing again for the third time in my life but this time I was tested for all different types of mental dissorders. I had taken four hours worth of tests ranging from questionaires, memory games, and making things with blocks in the month of March. I then also had some 'schooling' in there where I would take tests like Spelling, Math, English, History/Social Studies, and Science.

I had met up with the person testing me last July (four months after testing) and he had told my mother what I was diagnosed with. He brought this up with many other doctors, many that I'd seen when I was younger. He said that everyone that had tested me hadn't seen this before when I was tested though I was only tested for one specific type of Autism and didn't get a second or third opinion. When he diagnosed me he told me that I had Generalized Anxiety Dissorder, Trickotillomania, and Aspergers Sydrome.

How has this affected me? Not to much. Though now I can finally get the help in school I should've had when I was younger.

If you wanna share your dianostic experiance here, please do!

Thanks for reading!
~Chelsea (BrownAspieEyes) :D

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find wrongplanet a powerful tool for interacting and sharing with other aspies.
Now about the diagnosis, you were lucky your parents tested you, in my case, they really didn't cared much about my issues, "he doesn't need help, he is pretty smart" "he is just shy", were the most common response from them, however i aways felt different inside, when i got a little older, i went to a psychologist myself, and then i was diagnosed.

I like to google things and find out about things. I was on twitter and in someones profile it said she had aspergers so I googled that. and it fit better with me than what I thought was a social phobia or something. So I went to my doctor and said I think it may be Asperger's and refered me to a specialist and she refered me for a diagnosis from a specialist in autism that was a 6 month waiting list and after 3 hrs 30 min...ish he said it's aspergers syndrome. And that was just over 2 months ago (2nd June 2011). So thanks to my iPhone and twitter here I am.

My mom uses "he's just shy" as an excuse when I don't talk to people. :P

I actually learned about it from an Astronomy article I read on Google News that was talking about someone with AS. It made me remember about how I was supposed to be diagnosed with it two years before, but the doctor had a really long waiting list and never called back. So I read about it on Wikipedia, and I told my mom that I thought I had it. And I got diagnosed about the same time jonnysound did.

.| Wow.
