Am now on Adderall, colozapam, and prozac. The Prozac was added today, and will take a while to kick in. I had been avoiding getting on an antidepressant. The shrinky (Nurse) caught me at a weak moment and I conceded to give them a try. I was having a panic attack at the dr's office and I ended up crying..something I had happily managed to avoid till this visit...maybe it was triggered by the change...seeing the nurse instead of the doctor, who I am usually able to gloss over things with....I told the nurse that I have a problem with calling the doctor and making appointments and so usually let some months lapse before I see them again since i take less meds than i am prescribed...just enough so that I squeak by as slightly functional...The receptionist who causes me some anxiety was nicer to me than usual, which was nice....I reckon I shall see how things go....tralee tralaa....i know pharmaceuticals are evil and all that, but I have been having a rough go of things...and just wanna do better. Also I been going thru buncha junk and crying alot. Would like to have CBT or go see someone who I can talk about things with....but have no idea where to look.....

When I finally gave up my "medication is the mark of the beast" wall of hate, and gave them a try, I found that when taken correctly they DO help. You will need something called a "pill timer" to remind you to take pills on time. I posted links in another thread, so off I go to search for that thread.

It seems like there are a lot of AS spectrumy peeps on the prozac, if i am not mistaken...I hope it helps...Doc said the valium I take is merely a "bandaid" for my acute anxiety episodes. Prozac might help me strengthen my coping mechanisms..

Poopy, click on this link:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt169234.html

and then scroll down to the end. You will find a legit site where you can buy pill timers. Disclaimer: I have not actually used the site. I posted it because it was the most legitimate looking site. Buyer beware, as always.

I suggest you be very careful with prozac keep an eye on how it is affecting you, I had to quit that after I got really freaked out and parnoid on it. I actually just threw the rest away because at the time I did not give a crap about the fact that they advised me not to suddenly quit taking them, they made me feel like crap and I did not want it in my body anymore.

If these meds help you then take them, but just keep an eye on the effects and talk to the doctor about any negative side effects. I however do not trust pharmacutical psych meds anymore.

I've been on it for 20+ years, it works extremely well for me - I don't take anything else...

A psychiatric hospital might know where to direct you for CBT. You might even be eligible for an outpatient program there if they have one.

I've been on an SSRI (been on Prozac and Zoloft in the past, now on Cymbalta) for most of the past 10 years and it has helped a lot with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. I also take Vyvanse for ADD (similar to Adderall). I hope you find them helpful, as I do.

It is goofy...I didn't quite know how to respond when she threw out different choices of antidepressants that I could choose from...I "chose" Prozac....I was kinda curious about Zoloft merely cause there is a Ween song about it..she was not incredibly knowledgeable about the differences between the antidepressants...so it was almost as if she was "shuffling the cards" and it was up to me to call out a name...I chose Prozac for the supposed least amount of side effects...we will see how goes i guess...

I took Prozac for six months last year for depression and can honestly say it was a miserable experience. I react very strongly to any kind of SSRI, but on Prozac I still had reactive mood swings. I also experienced weight gain, anxiety, acne, loss of stamina, loss of libido and blurry sight. I went cold turkey at one point and suddenly, the world seemed brighter, more pleasant. I now take Wellbutrin, not an SSRI, and fare fairly well on that. None of the side effects, but none of the crazy mood swings either. I also took Effexor (Venlafaxine) for severe anxiety four years ago and that worked like a dream. I was a zombie for a year, but I haven't experienced anything other than healthy anxiety since. I wish you the best of luck on Prozac - I hope you don't hold my negative experience with it for a definite truth. Just keep an eye on yourself and your symptoms and be honest to your doctor. I know many people who did really well on Prozac and I hope you are one of them!

I was on Welbutrin for my ADD till a while ago. Changed to Concerta. Think I'll go back. Look how many people are encouraging you on this thread. That should be a plus for you. If Aspergers is a neurological thing, then medication should not be regarded as 'unnatural' or 'bad'. Why under-dose ? Do it properly ! We in South Africa have a Dr J...a (trained in Canada). May I quote him: "Medicate, medicate, medicate" Remember some of these people are actually on your side ! !!

Go Well
