I'm sure this is probably old news, but for those who love the classic survival horror games like the Silent Hill series you will be happy to know that Konami is releasing a Silent Hill HD Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360. This collection will feature the games Silent Hill 2 and 3 remastered in high defintion, along with new voice acting directed by the lead female singer for the game's songs.

I know most fans are a little upset by Konami's decision to redo the voices for the game (from what I heard it had something to do with legal issues regarding one of the voice actors), however I heard some of the new voices on YouTube and most aren't as bad as I heard people say they were.

Anyways here are some official links from Gamespot's website showing the game's announcement for the PS3 and 360.

I really am happy about this, I miss a lot of the classic horror games for the PS2 which I think are thousands of times better than the so-called horror games for the current generation of systems. Silent Hill 2 and 3 are truely unique games that are garunteed to scare the pants off of you with their use of disturbing visuals and creepy background noises, not to mention the freakishly deformed monsters that lurk around the abandon American town. :skull:

Survival horror games are becoming almost non existent today.
Silent Hill always hit the nail on the head. They always got the atmosphere perfect. Sometimes what you saw was as scary as what you didn't see.
I find that nowadays, with all the technology, studios tend to render everything as crisply and cleanly as possible. Exposing every single detail in the environment. It would be good to see more horror games that don't have an outstanding amount of detail to them. Let the player use their imagination a tiny bit more and let them fill in the blanks.

The Silent Hill games are pretty scary, but one of the things I loved the most about them was their use of inside jokes by the developers. Like in Silent Hill 2 you had the "Dog" Ending which explained all the events in the game were being controlled by a cute little doggie ("Dog" is actually "God" spelled backwards which was the point of the joke). And in Silent Hill 3 you had a really random but cool easter egg where Heather has the option to drop her steel pipe in stinky sewer water and a beautiful Goddess comes out holding a solid gold and silver pipe, and when she asks Heather which pipe she dropped if she answers honestly she gets rewarded with both the gold and silver pipe (which really don't do anything different than the normal steel pipe lol).

Things like that made those games a lot more original than most other survival horror games like the Resident Evil and Fatal Frame series.

Also when this game comes out I'm looking forward to unlocking Heather's Princess Heart costume and getting the Sexy Beam weapon for it. I used to be a big fan of the Sailor Moon series and it'll be kind of cool to pretend to be one of the Sailor Senshi killing monsters with magic energy. :P

I've played and beaten both, but I never got to play the "Born from a Wish" scenario from Silent Hill 2 because at the time when I had the games for PS2 it was only available for the Restless Dreams version of the game for Xbox. Born from a Wish is a small scenario where you get to play as the character Maria and find out what she was doing before she met James. I heard this scenario is going to be included in the Silent Hill HD Collection so it'll be awesome to finally get to play it. :)

And of course Silent Hill 2 and 3 have the best nurse monsters in the entire series. :P

None of the other nurse monsters in the series are as disturbing yet strangely fun to look at as the ones in the Brookhaven Hospital. The fact that they appear zombie-like yet use melee weapons such as steel pipes and revolvers is also pretty cool. I've always wondered what the deal is with the nurses being the Silent Hill trademark? Maybe somebody who helped make the game has a fear of hospitals?

They stole this from little ninja brothers for NES, the item in question is a "claw", not a pipe.

They didn't steal it from anybody, it's based on an old story about a farmer who drops his axe in a pond and a God dives into the water returning with a gold and silver axe asking the farmer which one he dropped. When the farmer decided to be honest and say neither one was his axe, the God rewarded him by giving him his normal axe back along with the gold and silver axes.

Here is a link to the story on Wikipedia:

This concept has been used in many other games too, for example The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past where the hero can drop his arrows in a fairy fountain and the fairy rewards him with powerful silver arrows for being honest about dropping them.

2 was the best IMO and yes, they need more psychological horror type games available like this.

And some great metallic wails and groans for making some really eerie acid techno.

Its cool, but for all the big artillary your character collects you start feeling a little too safe - almost goes more action after a while than survival horror in that sense. Still a sick plot though and still more than enough ambient goodies delivered as well as before.
