This past weekend Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island and various other states experienced the destruction of the hurricane. I am lucky enough that the city i live in did not lose any power during the storm. Recently in my area there was a tornado and mild earthquake this year. It is odd because where i live this is weather history. It is sad because the residents that lost their homes to the tornado now are dealing with the hurricane damage as well. Thankfully my family and relatives are safe. Yes and the pet cats i did worry about. Did you hear about the hurricane? Did it effect you in any way?

Got winds and rain, but no blackouts, we got lucky as some 58,000 (could be wrong on the number) houses are without electricity tonight, as per Québec news said. My sister's BF and the friends that had invited my parents had blackouts. =/ It could've been worse. Irene is currently moving towards Labrador as I type this. Rivers have been flooded though.

I saw the videos of Vermont, was pretty sad to see one of those roofed bridges get carried away by the water. =(

I live in Pennsylvania. I was suppose to start college oreintations, but because of Irene, it got pushed back. My family was also planning to have a reunion up @ my grandparents in New York, and of course that also got cancelled. I was up in New York visting my grandparents when the hurricane hit. Not much damage except for the cable going out and seeing tree branches on the street. It did flood on this one highway we always took, so we had to take an alternative way home. Again, not much damage (Thank goodness) but still it messed up a bunch on plans my family and I laid out.

The death toll and damage would have been much higher if people didn't prepare as heavily as they did. It was over-hyped but it is always better to be safe than sorry. I applaud the heavy media campaign/coverage, FEMA, and the local authorities. I am glad the east coast is safe.

Until the hurricane it northern New York State the west side of the storm was out to sea. That is the side that has the worst winds. The wind did not do most of the damage. It was floods.

Around 40% of CT lost power...and I was one of that 40%. Not fun at all.

Ditto here. The only good thing is that we had drawn down on the contents of our refrigerator and freezer before the power went out so our losses were minimal.

We still had water, which went cold in three days because we have an electric heater and we had to eat out because our electric stove was not available for cooking. I kicked myself for not having a grill that operates with propane or charcoal briquettes.

Smart man - emptying the fridge before the storm, not stocking it up. So many fools out there buying up milk and eggs knowing the possibility of an extended power outage. We did the same. The grocery stores were nearly empty a couple of days after the storm (full shelves, no shoppers). As a person who hates crowds, I rather enjoyed shopping that day.

We got slammed (I'm in Annapolis, MD). Without power from Saturday night until Tuesday night. Before that, we had an earthquake, and after Hurricane Irene, we had an escaped convict (I'm not kidding, he overpowered a female guard and ran into the neighborhood next to mine).

I hope everybody is recovering.
