Does anyone else do this form of stimming (self-stimulating activity) to cause pain and/or erode the skin?

I do...

I pick at the skin on my fingers, the areas on either side of the fingernails. I don't know why it feels good to do this.

I never even realized that I did this until now.

I do it, but not to cause pain. I'm usually not aware I'm doing it.

I should clarify - I don't do it IN ORDER to cause pain... well, maybe I do. Maybe it has a more soothing, anxiety-relieving effect when bit of pain is caused.

I've been thinking about this skin-picking, whether it's the act of the skin-picking or the sensation of the skin being picked that is so wonderful. I've decided that both are required to generate the good feelings. The small amount of pain is not enjoyable alone. The act of picking is not enjoyable alone. I don't feel anything from picking at the artificial skin on an artificial hand. I need to pick at my skin and feel the picking on my skin too. If my skin on one hand lost all sensation, then I wouldn't pick at it. I'd pick somewhere else to pick so I can feel the picking.

Last week, I poured boiling water on my hand. This week, the new skin has grown out under the burn, so I am currently peeling off the burned skin! It's sooooooo much fun!! ! Also, the new skin doesn't have the summer tan, so my hand looks like it's got a minor case of vitilligo.

I dig my nails into my arm when I am scared or tensed. I don't feel the pain at that time though it develops the next day. Everyone does this to some degree I think, but I do this a lot.

I had no idea anyone else did this! Every few months I have to cut my nails all the way down in order to let my fingers heal because I do this so much. It's subconscious. I don't even realize I'm doing it until I look down and I'm bleeding.

I dig my nails into my palms. I do it pretty much all the time, but more frequently when I'm anxious. It doesn't really hurt, or feel good...it just feels sort of right.

Also, I have to do it evenly to both hands; but, that's probably more OCD than aspie...

I often pick around the bases of my little fingers when I'm nervous. I've done this for a few years now and I've developed calluses. I do this more often when I'm anxious and it often gets to the point where I start to bleed quite a lot. The stinging sensation kinda helps me to take my mind off of whatever is bugging me, at least for a short while.

Other times I do this and just enjoy the rough feeling of all the flakey hard pices of skin, and the way they peel off.
