There are quite a few threads on WP about tactile sensitivity and how it relates to AS. I am pretty hyper-sensitive, in the sense that I'm incredibly ticklish - to the point where I can tickle myself. In another thread, someone posted a link to this website, which explains why it's impossible to tickle oneself: http://health.howstuffworks.com/question511.htm
I was reading about the brain structure of people with AS, and I discovered that some scientists from McGill University in Quebec have proposed that AS and autism are caused by abnormal functioning of the right hemisphere of the brain, specifically the cerebellum, which also regulates tactile sensitivity/ticklishness. I thought that some people on these forums may be interested in this rather compelling explanation for their tactile issues.

I doubt there's really any part of the brain that's not affected by ASDs. For sensory issues, I'd think it'd be a combination of the Parietal Lobes (especially the right Parietal) and the Cerebellum.

On a personal note, I definitely have tactile sensitivity. Especially with regards to my hands.

PS- I'm not sure whether you read it wrong or not, but the Cerebellum isn't considered part of the Cortex and therefore part of the "right" vs. "left" hemispheres. Though the Cerebellum is also a cortex and has its own hemispheres.

I have never been "tickelish"...and it has never made me laugh..more likely to get hit.I find any light sensation(hair wisps or cat wiskers on my face...I have to restrain myself from shaving my head(again)and throwing the cat(who I worship)across the room...any other attempt to "tickle" me are just annoying but not violently so...NO TICKELING.....

Even worse than tickling is the feeling of clothes. Part of the reason I love to stay home is that I can wear my pyjamas, which are the only tolerable clothes (although if it's summer and I'm alone... it's nakey time!).
Is that hypersensitivity or sensory integration disorder? (I'd say probably the second, if there's a difference, which I vaguely percieve)

I am extremely sensitive just below my gut, and above my hips. When I am lying down and press my finger, I get a sort of ticklish feeling, but it also feels painful, like a shock. Anyone else react like this?

I can't tolerate fabrics that aren't soft and smooth enough. I can't wear pygamas or anything in bed because I hate having them ride up and get tangled up, so I sleep in the nude. That means my sheets have to be soft and smooth enough. I've had to give away bedding that's too rough, even after several washes with sensitive fabric conditioner. My HFA hubby doesn't get it, but I just cannot sleep if my sheets are too rough for me - it drives me crazy!! Scratchy labels in clothes drive me doolally, and I always take of my bra and shoes when i get home because I need to be comfortable. I don't like wearing jeans at home either, I always wear joggers or a comfy skirt, otherwise I feel too constricted.
