Am I the only one who can show empathy to only one person?

I've never been able to do it. Until I got a gf who was my friend before that. Even when we were friends I'd hug her if she was feeling down etc. She's also the only person I can have physicsal contact with and not feel awkward. I can't even hug my immediate family with ease.

I can only hug my children and my partner, with anyone else it feels awkward as you say.

That's a physical contact issue though which I feel is quite separate from empathy.

An example of the empathy issue would be when my grandfather died and my mom was really sad and crying and I just stood there. Thankfully my sister was there to comfort her. If I saw my gf like that there would be no hesitation.
