Hi, my name is Jodie. I'm twenty in three weeks and I'm a student studying Education and English.
Despite lots of problems with social interaction and very narrow interests through childhood it took going to university (and essentially failing to live independently!) for anyone to pick up on my ASD traits. I am in the process of being diagnosed through an autism specialist centre associated with my university and am feeling positive about it since I now have some idea of why I feel so different from everyone around me.
My social difficulties are - no eye contact, difficulty understanding facial expressions, go on 'monologues', hard to have a two way conversation, narrow interests. I also have difficulty understanding 'social cues' such as hints and often tell people to tell me what they want from me outright if they want me to do it
My environmental difficulties are - poor sleeping, difficulty processing sound, sensitivity to noise/smells/sensations, dislike of change, food difficulties (I ate nothing but bananas until I was about 10! I hate food textures).
My hobbies are online roleplaying (through IRC), reading, lego and model building, going to the theatre (though I often wish the other people weren't there!). I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and House because I like the way they notice very small details like I do
Looking forward to meeting other spectrum people and learning more about you and myself in the process!
