Tonight I'm going to a graduation party of one of my best friends and I feel almost as If I were going to the dentist or to have surgery. I really hate parties, I feel extremely anxious at them. I usually have no one to talk to and the music and lights give me headaches. I'm not a smoker, but at parties chain-smoking is the only things that manages to keep my nerves at bay and the only thing I can do is wait for it to end.

Anybody else feels this way towards parties?

Oh yes. I've only been to one party and it was s**t.

No. I just bring my own entertainment to keep me busy and I keep to myself. I also walk around. Also there is food for me to eat. I also would sit in a empty room if the noise gets too much.

It depends on the kind of party.
If there's a balcony or porch away from the noise where other people go for fresh air,
then I occasionally find them enjoyable.

I don't like crowded indoor scenes where a conversation can be interrupted at any time.
High music volume is another deterrent for me.

Merely being in the presence of others in not sufficient incentive.
I need people there I feel comfortable talking to, or multi-player games of some sort.

Yes. Unless I know a lot of people, parties are boring and fraught with anxiety. I don't feel comfortable at all, and often can't wait for them to be over. I never know how to behave, I don't feel a sense of cohesion with anyone else, and my only salvation is to get drunk and find a drunken conversation. I was not made to mix.

You'd be surprised how many people relate to you though. The lone DJ, the chick organizing mixed drinks in cups, the guy manning grill, often they do that so they have an excuse to not socialize.

I'm not a fan of them......people are just there to socialise, and because they're in a small scale setting you can't really feel anonymous like you could in a club for example.

I like them sorry. Usually I'll drink or smoke some weed to relax. Chain smoking cigarettes sounds awful, I have done that, and many others cope in the same way.

That's exactly how I feel about parties. I think I'd rather go to the dentist than go to a party. But sometimes you have to do that to keep some friendships alive.
Usually I eat to spend time or I take a camera and take lots of pictures of other people to look "busy". Also I dance if there's more people dancing and it's not a couple-dancing. It's better than sitting alone in a corner, I think...
Anyway, I don't like parties...

You sum my thoughts up perfectly, Fatal Noogie.

I like parties, as long as I'm free to wander around and enjoy myself as I wish. Plus, I must be free to leave whenever I wish.

I have a friend who does that, and I suspect for the same reason. He also DJs. He's a media person all around, and always volunteers himself to take pictures so he stays in the mix.

It's because most people don't know how to throw a good party with proper entertainment and I don't have the same tastes as the host most the time. In other words, most parties bore me. I'd rather be off doing my own thing.

I like small parties - from a half-dozen to a dozen people or so. I also attend every party that I'm invited to. However, the larger (and noisier) the party, the sooner I leave. Sometimes I stay just long enough to greet the host, the guest of honor, and a few people I know; then I get something to eat and go home.

Parties are great for getting a free meal or meeting a new friend, but that's about it.

I like some parties but not others. I hate my family's parties but enjoy my friends' parties. My friends can be pretty wild. My family aren't yet ready for my kungfu tecktonic raving.

Each to their own though, I'm sure my family would be appalled by my friends' parties.

I sure hope my family don't read this. :help:

I hate parties, so when forced to go, i usually do this.
I went to one party that was virtually only Aspies.. And we all basically were okay.
I went to another party and was just stared at because apparently i impressed people with my musical knowledge.
I dont care about that, but at least I made friends..

It depends if there's many people I know, but I generally don't get invited to many anyway so...
