I spend on average around 5-10 hours just on getting new music everyday.
I constantly want new music, i like unique stuff that seems new and pleasureable on some level.
Maybe this should be on music section but seems like it's autism related in that it is a "special interest"
(that sounds so stupid IMO....what's so special about it anyways........)

Anyone else have this addiction? I constantly crave new music, it's what keeps me going.
I hate most music played on the radio unless it's before 2000+

When I was a kid though I would sit by the radio all day and record tapes off the radio.
Then I bought my first cd and it took off from there with the internet and eventually cd burning.
And stereo equipment with as many speakers going at once as I could equip to my several amplifiers.
And now I go through 100 blank cd's a month or less. Burning only a third or less of what I download.

I no longer spend as much time on stereo equipment because I do not want to drive my parents mad with the noise.
I switched that passion to computer hardware and it's seems a decent replacement though it is nice purchasing something that you can hear the result.
Though I can hear my fans.....so the computers do talk to me but just lets me know it's chugging along.

I went through a phase like that and wound up with over 300 CDs.

Oddly enough when I was a kid I wasn't into music that much. I grew up with in a small town with standard radio stations. When I finally moved to a bigger city at about the same time the Internet was seriously taking off I finally got exposed to new experimental types of music and sounds and I got hooked. I had to have more!

Out of necessity I'm trying to weed down my collection. Also I try to listen to something a lot on YouTube first to see if it's something I really want. If so I will buy it because I want better sound quality then what you get on YouTube.

As for listening I recommend getting good headphones.

Well since my cd collection gets out of control and I am very attached to getting the latest technology in my computer and building new computers I typically sell my computer to pay for a new one to build. At this point I usually start over with my music and start in a new genre/time period. Or if I have around 100-300 cd's I give my whole collection to a friend to get rid of it because I want new music.

Though I do still wish I had my tapes, my last one I let a friend burrow and his stupid tape player ate the tape -.-

There was a time when I wouldn't check out the music just find it on blogs and if the cover looked interesting i'd download it. But now I always listen to it on youtube (what would we do without it....)

I was also from a small city but luckily it was on the water and across the water was a big city I could get my radio stations from. (seattle)

I do use headphones sometimes if it's late and I need to keep quite...or if i'm out and about/at the gym.

But I really like to feel the music so I need speakers, it's very important to have some decent speakers imo....to get the full feeling from the music. You just can't get the same feeling with headphones....although sometimes it is nice to get some nice big headphones that seal nicely around your ears and block out everything else and it's just the music.

I actually met one of my few friends through work who had been at it longer and probably had 400 CDs. We had some similar tastes in music and I found more bands that way.

At this point I'm trying to do better with evaluating music. Certain things I hold in high regard and I'm willing to pay and set aside space for a hard copy. Otherwise I might swipe the MP3 off of YouTube.

One thing that is tough though is one of my favorite bands released a Greatest Album with a new bonus song. There is a side to me that is a completest that is tempted to own it and I really do like the new song. For now though I'm just taking the song off of YouTube. However this same band has a new full album as well and that I will probably buy.

Also in the past my enthusiasm has led me to buy way to many Movie Score Soundtracks. Though I am still very happy with the TRON: Legacy soundtrack. I don't really need that many others like The Usual Suspects soundtrack or Fargo.

I love getting new music. As much as I enjoy listening to it, I also love organising it. I'll correct all the song titles and fix the capitalisation (I like to have every word capitalised, not just the "important" ones). I will also only get full studio albums, and I will delete any bonus tracks... it just feels wrong to me to have them there because I don't consider them to be a part of the album otherwise they wouldn't be "bonus" tracks. I like listening to an album as a whole to see how it sounds all together... and I find that with compilation albums for example I will already have most of the songs on there and it feels ... I don't know ... messy to listen to with all of those random songs.

This usually means that my collection is missing certain songs by some artists, but I actually don't mind that. I am satisfied with having all of their studio albums.

I also hate listening to recorded live music, and some bands release EPs containing live music... so that's why I stopped getting EPs, because I couldn't not have all the songs, but at the same time, I don't want the live music. Having none of them is a compromise that I'm happy with.

And finally, I enjoy just browsing my music library because I think it looks very neat and tidy. =)

I admire your organization....i wish I organized mine as well but over time I have given up doing that since there is too much coming in and then eventually it's all gone when I restart....i do begin a new organizing system each time but it's probably nothing close to as organized as yours. I also like to get full albums so I can pull them up on my list and it's not just a bunch of random songs....I always delete anything extra in the files....like m3u or lists or other things that might come along....bonus tracks i think i keep...just means more music but it could throw the organization off a bit.

Live music....I don't like to listen to that either....the studio is where they've had a chance to perfect their songs...why would I want to listen to an imperfect performance....plus added noise from the audience. Although there are a few grunge songs I enjoy live....like nirvana isn't too bad live. Though I do prefer their studio albums.

Yeah, I delete all of the extra files, too. I've gotten into the habit of only downloading one discography at a time so I don't have too much to do at once. I've been known to delete my entire collection quite a few times and started all over again because I was unhappy with how it was organised.

I had a lot of music on my PS3 until recently. I like listening to music on my PS3 but unfortunately it consumes a lot of power. =(

I also find that I don't enjoy listening to it anywhere near as much if it's not organised...

Also, another reason that I don't really like bonus tracks is that they tend to be different depending on the country that the album is released in. Some albums also have different track listings for different regions, but I'll always go for the track listing for the UK release.

This is me down to a tee. My room is littered with vinyls and CDs, I spend a lot of my time finding new music - at least 3 to 4 hours a day. I started buying CDs when I was about 10 and then later on I started getting vinyls, I'm not in school at the moment because we just had our exams. But when I am I listen to music in home class, two of my classes, during my free period, when I'm walking to my next class, during interval but not at lunch, when I walk home and then I listen to less and less as the day comes to an end. I tend to kind of just crave for something new everyday but I try to take my mind off of those thoughts by listening to an album I haven't heard in awhile, course that doesn't always work
