Is it just me, or do aspies tend to be good looking? We often don't have fashion sense, but a lot of aspies have attractive faces. That's just my impression anyway, which I got from attending a local AS meeting, from aspie friends and from seeing people's pics and videos online.

I'm proof it's not true. I'm sure many other people are as well.

It's funny because my mum was just talking about attractive autistic people today. Not me. She was talking about some film she saw as a kid and the children were really attractive.

Me, I think I do alright, with the right hair style.

No, you're not the only one as I have noticed this, too, and I find it ironic that people with AS would mature to be better-looking than NTs, given that we don't relish social interaction and are often asexual.

Talk about "damaged goods".

I'm sure the connection is merely coincidental, however, but it's nice to have people appreciate your appearance and comparing you to mythical beings like angels and so forth. Whether there is any basis for the so-called "Aspie Face" or not, I guess will have to be determined scientifically in due course.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed! Thanks for the validation :)

Nobody's ever compared me to a mythical being, but I think there is something beautiful and other-worldly about aspies, which is one of the reasons why I love us.

Maybe it's the lack of make up and fussing over your looks.

I'm allergic to make up and most face products and I'm not really bothered with my looks. The hair's gotta be messy though.

other people often say I'm pretty, but I don't see it. And even if, it's wasted like the previous one said: we aren't very good with other people, certainly not in the way that needs attraction. :?

I don't think it's a waste to be pretty!! It can really help to be physically attractive if you're not good with people, as they can be a bit more forgiving - sad but true. And it can help to be pretty when you finally meet the fellow weirdo of your dreams (like I did).

Well my autistic boys are considered very handsome by most people. I think I'm very ordinary looking, though. I think kids are just cuter over all. Adult aspies tend to be "cute" too but we can't get away with things easily just by being cute. :)

Is it possible that aspies look relatively better because we're more likely to be thinner and have defined waist? Which is increasingly rare in today's world.

yeah that's also part of my *problem*: i don't want a guy !
Guys are all over me when I hang around with my friend and her friends.. pff.
If I really knew I was ugly and horrible, then at least I could get my hopes minimalised and I wouldn't have this broken heart.

I'm also very thin.. how come ? I inherited this from both my parents (who are both a little bit weird, but not AS as far as I can tell).

A lot of people say I am really cute (in the UK sense of the word). That might be because I didn't really grow properly and I still look like a 12 year old! I do know several Aspies though who are butt ugly (yeah one in particular bullied me a lot and he was UUUUGLY!) so it's not all Aspies who are good looking. Quite often though you do find there is a pattern of Aspie type behaviours mixed with young, good looks. Sometimes that is how I can tell someone is an Aspie!

yeah I'm 31 and had to go to the unemployments office's psychologist because I've had almost no job since graduation and she said they had to investigate my case further, along with 'because you also look so HORRIBLY young' 8O :?

But my best friends is normal and she also looks young because she doesn't care about society's standards; She dresses like she wants to, behaves like a complete wild girl and does whatever she feels like doing. No make up too

Some aspies may have what is called "Cupid's Bow" of the upper-lip, have fuller faces and high-set cheekbones, inwardly-focused eyes (known as "dead eyes" to NTs), and a general "youthful" appearance or expressionless, mask-like faces (which is true for some, but not all aspies). Some of these observations were noted by Dr Asperger himself, so there does seem to be a correlation between AS and appearance, he even used the word "ethereal" to describe the aspie "look".

My problem is that I look feminine and have had trouble with being hit on by other males, which both disturbs and confuses me, and I hate that kind of attention. I might be asexual, but I'm still undecided on that because I choose to focus my attention on more important matters. I like being androgynous, but there are times when I feel like I'm some kind of freak due to my gender ambiguity, and I've been bullied extensively for it in the past.

Hell, there were times when I felt sexually harassed.

So, yeah, the aspie look can be a bit like a double-edged sword.

Looks have nothing to do with AS.

Oh, what an insightful contribution you have made!

Seriously, the guy who discovered these traits is the same guy who discovered the condition to begin with, so you'll forgive me if I ignore your opinion and go with his instead.
