I do, and I wonder how many others do?

I have at times severe paranoia. I have it mainly about the government after me and not trusting anyone. I do trust my friends for the most part though because I have known them for a long time. Sometimes it gets more out there and I believe that aliens are out to get me as well.

Full blown paranoia or just a overly powerful mistrust of what's "out there"?

Paranoia is essentially holding to a false belief. But since it believed to be true, you don't know that it is false, so a truly paranoid person doesn't know they're being paranoid.

I spend too much time worrying, but I don't ascend to true paranoia. In fact, I suffer more from an overwhelming sense the the world is completely indifferent to my existence. At least the paranoid believe someone or something is out to get them which implies that their existence has been noticed.

Why? Did somebody say something to you about me? Why would you ask? Whose talking about me?! I don't remember saying anything to anyone! Did I say something that would make you think so? What did I say? Who told you?! 8O

Seriously, no. Not really. The only time I've ever felt paranoid was when I had actually done something wrong and was afraid of getting caught, which technically isn't paranoia, but a realistic fear of getting caught.

Yes. And paranoia can be rational: it does not imply any secret conspiracy. For example, I was once in trouble with the police because I did something for ethical reasons. Another time the authorities tried to destroy my life financially: the way I was living did not tick their boxes. Right now my boss almost certainly hates me and is messing with me financially, but from her point of view she is in the right. Authorities have good intentions, but if you don't play by their rules then they WILL get you.

This one does. Not too extreme though.. most of the time.

I think there are hidden cameras everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

i'm pretty realistic except when i'm having a psychotic episode. then i am sure the world is about to end in a very painful way. luckily, i have a med that works and haven't been psychotic since 1995. btw, psychotic is out of touch with reality. psychopathic (sociopathic) is lacking a conscience. serial killers are psychopaths, not psychotics or schizophrenics. the media screws this up all the time. when i was psychotic, all i wanted to do was be reassured by family. no one needed to fear me. this is true for the vast majority of psychotics. we're scared, not scary.

Yeh, me.

I have paranoia under the ''self-conscious'' category. I think everybody's laughing at me and watching me. When I was in hospital once, I really wanted the toilet and my mum said where the toilets were, but I didn't want to get up because I kept thinking people might think, ''where's that stupid girl going?'' My mum has to tell me time and time again that nobody's thinking that, but you can't help thinking it when you get stares from people all day long.

One day last week was terrible. Absolutely terrible. I got more stares than I normally do, and I didn't look or act any different to what I do any other day. I saw an old 80-year-old man looking in my direction as I passed, and I thought, ''maybe he was looking over there'', but my friend said, ''that old man was really staring at us.'' And I was like, ''why? Why would people waste their time staring at us for?'' It's getting worse. So I've got to face it: I look like a stupid, worthless, ugly, goony freak who everyody laughs at. I'm getting to the stage now where I'm feeling so paranoid that I need to be in a coma I think.

Christ, didn't think I was that freakish, but evidentally I am.

I am paranoid of a lot of things. This forum is a good example. I am paranoid of posting my thoughts on here because I know I won't be able to delete them if I want to. I am no sure why it freaks me out but I know I need to work on it.

I am pretty low on the Paranoia Meter. The only times when I am paranoid are when I have these acute paranoia attacks that last a few minutes. During these few minutes, I truly believe, 100% and utterly unswayably, that the other totally familiar person in the room is going to pull out a huge butcher knife and dice me into itsy-bitsy human spam cubes. Before that happens, there's a feeling like a change in the weather, like the barometer drops before a thunderstorm. That paranoia is extreme, but infrequent.

I tend to overthink the consequences of my actions and exaggerate them. I'll keep wondering about things and eventually my thoughts will spiral out of control. I consider myself a very rational person so I keep telling myself I'm just imagining things, but the feeling of uneasiness lingers anyway.

I hate how the media portrays psychotics. They always make them out to be animals and killers. While there are some psychotic killers it is not always the case. One of my best friends has a psychotic disorder (schizoaffective) and he isn't a killer. Actually he is very nice. I have schizoaffective disorder I have never intentionally killed anyone. The only person I was ever violent towards is myself.
