Does anyone here have any favourite session musicians, or musicians that play in bands but tend not to front bands? I often find that less known musicians tend to be more interesting, and because they're not majorly famous like lead singers and solo artists, it's easier to appreciate their musical skills rather than their image. So who is your favourite musician, and why? :)

Mine is Yukihiro "Chachamaru" Fujimura, from the Japanese bands Vienna, Gerard, and GacktJOB. IMO he's one of the best guitarists around, and I love the fact that he seems to be largely a progressive rock artist. I'm also a big fan of Tony Fernandez, a drummer who has done a lot of work with Rick Wakeman, and it was seeing him perform live that inspired me to learn to play drums. :)

I'm gonna say... Simon Tong. He played with The Verve, then with Blur after Graham Coxon left. Also did some Gorillaz stuff, and now plays with The Good the Bad and The Queen. But I'm basically just menioning him because the last three (Blur, Gorillaz, TGTB&TQ) are all Damon Albarn projects. Damn I love Damon Albarn.

Simon's not bad either. Some quitar bits of the excellent Feel Good Inc. are his.
