I was wondering if everybody has a specific favorite movie from categories such as action, comedy, horror, etc? Here are my most favorite movies from each category that I can think of.

Action: My favorite action film is probably Kill Bill (I count volume 1 and volume 2 as the same movie).

Comedy: My favorite comedy film is Addams Family Values, which I have watched since I was a littl kid and still enjoy it.

Horror: My favorite horror movie is Night of the Living Dead.

Other (romance, westerns, scifi, etc): The only favorite movie I can think of in this category is The Craft. I don't think it fits any specific genre but it's a cool movie I like.

Action: Die Hard (all four of them, but 1 and 3 are the best), Leon (aka The Professional), Terminator 1 & 2

Comedy: Blazing Saddles, Ghostbusters

Crime/Mystery: Purple Noon, The American Friend***, The Maltese Falcon, any of the Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone

Fantasy: Highlander (no idea how to categorize this movie)

Horror: Nosferatu, The Thing**, The Shining, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead

Science fiction: Blade Runner*

Western: The Dollars Trilogy (pick one, they’re all the same)

* My favorite movie
** My second favorite movie
*** My third favorite movie

This is just a quick thing I typed up. There are way too many movies I love that I could talk about all day.

I don't know why people keep typing this as historical. Commodus was strangled and murdered by a wrestler named Narcissus the night before he was going to be sworn in as Emperor for another year, certain aspects of it are historical such as Commodus fighting in the arena and being an unstable ruler. Here's a list of the historical inaccuracies in the movie.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical ... 00_film%29

Quote:
Historians called the movie both the worst and best of all films: the worst for the historical inaccuracies in a film Scott promoted as historically accurate, and the best for the film's accurate depiction of the people and violence of the late 2nd century AD.

Some great recommendations so far, I'll post my list up.

Action: Predator, Total Recall, The Running Man

Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz

Drama: Schlinder's List, The Shawshank Redemption, American History X, Requiem for a Dream, American Beauty

Sci-Fi: Terminator, The Matrix, Inception, Twelve Monkeys, Blade Runner

Horror: Alien

Historical: Valkyrie

Crime: Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, Scarface

Thriller: American Psycho, Collateral, From Hell

Superhero: Batman (1989)

Comic-Book Adaptation: Batman, Constantine, The Crow

War: Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates

Animation: Avatar and Gamer, both really stunning on Blu-Ray, probably two of the most visually stunning movies you can get that could be considered mature animation if you're not keen on watching movies like Toy Story.

Sorry, I'm crap at categorising films. And really inconsistent. And terrible at decisions.
So it's long, messy and annoying. But noone will read it so it doesn't matter. :D

Action: Terminator/2, Die Hards, Pulp Fiction, Jaws, Braveheart (I know I know, it's terrible.)

Adventure: Indiana Jones and the doodah of wotsit. All of them, except the last one. Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Spartacus, Towering Inferno, Cassandra Crossing, Any 70s disaster film.

Animation: The Lion King, My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Nausica...

Children's: Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Ice Age, Matilda, The Snowman, Wall E, Finding Neverland, The Goonies, Flight of the Navigator.

Comedy: Back to the Future, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Mary and Max.

Crime: Taxi Driver, Leon, Silence of the Lambs, Shawshank Redemption, True Romance, The one with thingy thingy and Brad Pitt, Se7en, Trainspotting, Shallow Grave.

Documentary: Etre et Avoir. I'm sure there are others, I just can't think of them.

Drama: A Beautiful Mind, The Black Narcissus, Brief Encounter, Out of Africa (swoon at both), A Room with a View, A Passage to India, Maurice, The English Patient, To Kill a Mockingbird, Schindlers List, The Pianist, Fight Club, The Truman Show, Joyeux Noel (tears).

Eighties Nostalgia: Ferris Beuller's Day Off, War Games, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Tootsie, Karate Kid, Stand By Me, Rita Sue and Bob Too, My Beautiful Launderette, Fame, Croc Dundee, Bill and Teds, Beetlejuice, The Lost Boys.

Fantasy: Lord Of The Rings, Avatar (could be in sci fi, but it feels more fantasyish to me), Poltergeist.

Horror: Omen, Pretty much every zombie film ever made even the terrible ones, Let the Right One In, An American Werewolf in London, The Birds, Halloween, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Rosemary's Baby (shiver), The Shining, The Wicker Man.

Musical: Um.... The Von Trapp one. Oh and the Meryl Streep one, just cos she looked great in dungarees, The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Snow White, The Jungle Book.

Romance: When Harry Met Sally? Errrm. Oh, North and South, except that's more of a mini-series.

Sci-Fi: 12 Monkeys, 2001etc, Alien/s, Contact, Cube, E.T., Close Encounters..., Gattaca, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Logan's Run, Star Wars II-VI, Star Treks (I can't be bothered to go through the numbers, but all except the whales), Planet of the Apes.

Sentimental/ChickFlick: What Dreams May Come, Dirty Dancing, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Grease. Most things with Jodie Foster or Meryl Streep. Gah.

War/Peace/Love/Hippies: The Great Escape, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Chocolat, Into the Wild, Forrest Gump.

Don't know where to stick it: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Gandhi, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (read the book if you haven't), Don't Look Now.
