What I call myself when I'm feeling extremely low:
Worthless
A burden
Ugly
Waste of space
Coward
Annoying
Pathetic
Useless
Unworthy of help
Selfish

The saddest part is that I spend so much time trying to help my friends to see that they're none of the awful things they call themselves, but I can't do the same for myself.

Ever catch yourself calling yourself a name?

This happens a lot with me. I tend to say things like "you stupid fck" or something like that.

Lately I am trying to stop doing that. I was listening to a health show on the radio (WBAI NYC) and the person was talking about being your own worst enemy, how we tend to Record and Repeat bad things that are said to us, over and over again.

Like a bad sample of music we repeat the loop over and over in our heads, which does nothing but make us feel worse.
*The trick is to Replace those Recorded thoughts with Positive Thoughts/Feelings:
-Yes. I messed up on that thing, but I did my best and next time I WILL do better!
-It's just a mistake! Everyone makes them, so don't worry so much!

I know it sounds easier than it is, but it can be very effective. The hard part is to predict when you are going to go-off on yourself, to STOP, relax and re-focus your energy on something positive.

I went on a course a long time ago that covered that sort of thing. People can be their own worst enemy. It isn't healthy for a person to call themselves names, it leads to lower self esteem and more problems. As you mentioned, if you screw up, the thing is to forgive yourself and say something like "that isn't like me - I won't screw up next time". It is OK to say an expletive when you discover a screw up "s**t", "F**k" or whatever to let out the emotion, provided it is aimed at the event not yourself. If anyone wants an example of how a person can destroy themselves with negative self talk you only have to read the posts of the member MR20.

wow a lot of people have self esteem, personality and confidence issues.
internal criticism, self loathing/self hatred.
an individual is often his/her own worst enemy.
